Hello. Please I want know how lucrative fictional romance can be.

I have tried book publishers but none is forth coming so I'm thinking of self publishing. would my investment be worth it? would it sell?
Fictional romance is very good but very competitive. However ensure your books is upto 30,000 words or more for that niche.

The more the word count, the better. Most bestselling authors in that niche have an average of 70,000 words minimum.

So between 70,000 to 100,000 words for that niche is ok as an African writer.

It's better to stick to your niche and write different books in that niche. Write as many books as possible in your niche and launch your career in a strong way.

No doubt when we hear that knowledge is power. What you know, others may not know it. So share your knowledge and experience in a book and let people learn from it.

mine is over 60k words.

Word count is great, I advice you publish it in 2 volumes. 1st volume ebook/Kindle version should be given free or set at 0.99USD while the sequel can sell for 10 USD or more. If they enjoyed the first book they want to buy any other book in your name. The free ebook will drive the sales of your Paper back
NEXT :
-Design a great cover. Compare with bestsellers in your niche
- Select competitive keywords, metedata to boost organic sales. If you have or know someone with KDProcket, that is an advantage
- Check for plagiarism and have a second eye handle your editing. Grammarly is good for plagiarism check. International book retailers have zero tolerance for copyright infringement.
-Fast and Pray. Very important.

No, such advice is not meant for everybody. Not everyone must use an English name or pen name. It's better to use your own name. Things have changed and are changing worldwide. People respect Nigerian writers worldwide so you don't have to change your name to a white man's name. It's like selling your identity and birthright. Why can't a white man change his name to a Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa name? Have you ever seen this happen before? So why should you change your name and abandon your cultural heritage?

Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie and many other Nigerian writers used their real names and even whites respect them so much and want to learn from them.

Promote your book well and people will surely buy it all over the world. Don't look for shortcuts or get rich quick syndrome. Wait for your time just as Chimamanda waited for her time and when it's your time you will go round the whole world and people will read and buy your book worldwide.

It depends on what works for the person. We don't advise anyone to use a pen name. We have several years of professional experience and from experience, most Nigerians that used pen names couldn't sustain it because it's difficult to maintain and promote when you have a double identity.

A lot of other strong reasons against it but I won't be able to write everything here.

You are totally mistaken. There are many reasons authors choose to adopt a pen name other than trying to conceal their ethnicity or cultural background.
More apt is the desire for writers to overcome certain glass ceilings that could hinder the acceptance of their work.
To answer your question, yes I have seen British and American Authors adopt Pen names; notable amongs which are Joanne Rowling (Harry Potter) using the pen names Robert Galbraith and JK Rowling . Also Benjamin Franklin used the pen name Mrs Silence Dogood and Samuel Clemens used the pen name Mark Twain. I believe these are enough proof for you.
Understanding a writers motive, audience and personal challenges determines if the use of pen name or real name is the best route and not "get rich quick" as you put it.
