Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano and former Governor of the state, has said the incoming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration in the state will not be able to pay N30, 000 minimum wage to workers as they anticipate to inherit an empty treasury from Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje's administration.

Kwankwaso, who addressed a group of Kwankwassiyya supporters in Kaduna, said the PDP is sure of victory in the supplementary election and will not continue with the payment of N30, 000 minimum wage as promised workers by Ganduje.

“As the leader of the party in Kano, I have directed our Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, not to pay the minimum wage because that is the APC manifesto and we will not take it," Kwanllkwas said.

"Anyway, we will ensure that workers get their salaries on or before the 25th of every month, but what we will not do is to pay the minimum wage."

At the time the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the Kano governorship election inconclusive, PDP’s Yusuf had polled 1,014,474 votes while APC’s Ganduje had 987,819.

However, the margin of 26,655 votes between the two top candidates meant it was impossible for INEC to declare a winner.”

Kwankaso, what are you saying, and you want civil servant to vote you again to confirm your earlier winning. Please, apologise to Kano workers and pay them the 30k, Ganduje emptying the treasury has nothing to do with workers. I hope you won't regret your stupid out burst. Atiku said he will enrich his family and friends when he becomes president and you think that did not affect him and he never came out to correct himself. Nigerian leaders should stop taking Nigerians for a ride because they are not stupid, you people think impoverishing the the masses will give you the edge to continue to fool them, No. You disappoint me.

Ibos. IBOs. It is ibos that are posting all these nonsense on what is happening in Northern & South West politics, that is why we want them out of Lagos politics.

The voters you called Almajirin, illiterates and beggars because they voted for whom they trusted now suddenly become enlightened because they voted for another person they like in another election. For your information, politics in Kano as it is in South West is not dependent on political party ownership or tribal or religious affiliation but on individual the majority of the people trust at any point in time and on the strength of character of political actors of the party as at that point in time.

The issue of Kano and Oyo is not that of people likeness for PDP or APC but choice based on individuals the majority of people trust at this point of time. The dynamics can change at any time.

Kano can afford more than 30k, Yesuf, take your destiny in your hands and let the Kano civil servants know you can and will pay. Go out now and let the workers know that Kwankwaso did not say that and that sahara reporter who is now supporting APC is lying. Salvage your state and your winning now before is too late. Shikena.

First, thanks for your gracious answer.

Now, some facts from google

1.Nigeria's breakeven oil price, the price at which we need oil to be to have a budget without borrowing for all 160million of us is $140

2.Oil is at $60

3.Revenue is falling

4.Most states don't have the resources to pay, even if their governors weren't so corrupt, the new minimum wage. Many states have had to be bailed out in the last 3 years.

5.So, as you call Kwankwaso brainless, consider these facts. His state possibly does not have the resources to pay minimum wage. As do many other states.

6.So, that's the problem

(Good morning. Not every challenge is an insult. Don't be too prickly like Atelerix algirus)
One thing Nigerians do not get. 2 million barrels daily cannot fund the 70% budget for a country of anything from 160m to God knows how many. Even if it was $200 per barrel.

Around 8 million barrels daily might just be adequate. To pay recurrent expenditure and have enough for capital and special intervention projects.
We are still a poor country with massive untapped resources (human especially).

If we had done our homework properly since end of the civil war, Nigeria should not need more than about 15% of our budget to come from oil by now.

States have huge overheads, debt servicing, pension, etc.

Yes the allocation is bigger than the salary wage..

But most states have to

1.Service debts

2.Build projects...because if you don't build something, your opponents would call you names.

3.Bills...power bills, water bills, fuel bills, etc....

4.Corruption.

Barely leaves enough for the salaries. (Salaries also chop most state budgets too)

Most people don't realise that most government spending goes to generous unaffordable entitles programs and not lost through corruption.

That was what bankrupted the Greek economy. Very generous pensions with early retirement and a bloated civil service and many others sank Greece.

My love for economics developed by reading the Economist magazine. The Economist has been my favorite magazine since the age of 17 years.

States governments and even the federal government are finding it hard to pay 18,000 and you want them to pay 30,000! Do you think it will be easy? Even Buhari who is a populist for the first time acted unpopular and tried to bring the amount requested down to 27,000.

Were it to be approved, there'll be pressure on the foreign reserves and if not properly handled (it will not) will cause a fall in the Naira value. I see the Naira hitting 500 to a $1 before the end of 2023. It might even touch 600.
