Yeah. I know if I put in the effort to understand it, I will. The zeal is not just there. I will try harder though. I always watch their highlights on supersport Blitz

AAinEqGuinea:
if you don't research the sport, you'll have to be abroad and maybe attend a predominately white school to understand this sport. It's worth learning.

We played cricket when I was at school - an Oyinbo established school with boarding houses: Carr, Powell, Swanston, Green and Field houses. Every year, old boys come back to play with the current crop of talents. Cricket is not cheap to play - Bats, Whites and vest and Jumper, Box (to cover nether area), pads to protect Shins and Ankles and Arm Guards too. Wicket Keeper own even more because of the danger of standing behind the stumps (3 wooden batten stuck into the ground with bales on top). Nowadays, every player wear Helmets not just wicket keeper to protect from being knocked on the head by the ball from either bowlers or batters or ricochets...

Cricket is almost like Baseball or Rounders but a little more complex in the set up and the actual play and many small rules. Essential one person bowls (or pitches) the ball to a batter and the batter tries to knock the ball away so that he can run between the wickets (the area around the 3 stumps mentioned above). You can only run 4 times across but if you knock the ball over the boundary; you dont even have to run self - you get 4 runs automatically. If you knock the ball clean over the rope boundary, you get a maximum of 6 runs. You can also collect 5 runs if the bowlers bowls you a no-ball and many other things can also happen...

If you are stumped (that the bales are knocked off) then you are out and will have to to go and sit down and let another batter come in to carry on until all the players - 10 out of 11 are out. if while running, a fielder throws that ball and knock your bales off before you get to the wicket (area) then you are also out. If you bat and someone catches your hit clean, you are also out. If you knock off your own bales, then you are out. If you swipe away a ball that is going to your stumps with your hands - you are also out. A double hit - you are out. If the ball hits your leg in front of the stumps (3 sticks); you can also be out if not especially if not playing a shot and so on.

When the first team have finished batting the total runs are recorded and the second team can start batting instead of bowling. The team not batting is said to be Fielding along with the wicket keeper; they spread out all over the field to catch the ball or save runs being scored or try to hit the stump to get a run-out.

3 main types of Cricket events:

20/20 means only 20 overs are bowls by each team - so this is a quicker and shorter version of the game. All batters do not have to be out before the 20 overs but total runs is what counts

50-overs one day game: As the above but 50 overs are bowled by each side

Test Cricket - usually scheduled for 5 days; In this version the two teams have 2 innings - they bat and bowl twice to decide the winner. However, sometimes there are no winners due to time running out and one team not being able to get the batters of the other team out (twice).

* An Over is 6 ball bowled to the batting team. So in a 20/20 match - 20x6 balls is scheduled to be bowled; the first team will certainly bowl 120 balls but the other team might match the runs before second team has faced 120 balls. In the event of a tie - they ball a Super Over - 1 over each to decide..

Nigeria has Rugby team and there is presently a rugby league in Nigeria. We even hosted women champion (africa) tournament recently. It was for selected teams though. Rwanda, botswana and others were here. And many of our national rugby player plays for rugby club in europe mostly.

And as for golf, it is more like polo, they are regional for now, only hosted regionally. Like states but they are both on in Nigeria. Lagos polo club, Lagos golf club, Ibadan golf club, Rivers and all. A Ghanaian even won the Rivers or so championship tournament late last year.
I mean on a global scale just like the cricket world cup they qualified for.
