Feck sake There's no way he would have gotten away with a few of those tackles today . This guy would be a walking red card . The way of playing the game has changed a lot since then. He wouldn't survive in this era

Nothing like that. These are clean tackles.

If there's anything he would struggle in modern era, it's with the tall lone strikers like Drogba, Kanoute, Benni McCarthy that we saw in the 2000s era due to the fact he does not have the height to compete aerially with them. Romario is making him look tall in this video but he was quite short.

Barkley impressed me in CM role again today. I hope he can be consistent going forward, not shine today, flop tomorrow

He was already 34 by this time but some people would want you to believe Boathand was being affected by old age by the age of 28 when he became rubbish.

Boateng was never as good as Baresi but way better than Terry

This was Terry at 28

This is Terry at 24yrs getting sodomized by Shabani Nonda and later Morientes

This is vs Morientes in the 2004 CL semi running around aimlessly like a familiar spirit

This is vs Luis Garcia in the 2005 CL semi finals which Chelsea lost. See 25yr old Terry in Jersey 26 jumping like an epileptic patient

At what point was Terry ever good?

He was very, very good with the ball. Used to start lots of counters for Milan charging down the middle of the field sharing the ball right and left.
He was essentially a DM playing last man.

I was just watching his clips on youtube now, he was good tecnically
I also just got to know he won the league conceding just 14 and 15 goals respectively
Italians also have the knacks of producing great defenders.

Incredibly Gooood!.He was pretty much a sweeper. Also reckon He could have played the Regista role if He wanted to.
Just watch youtube videos about him now, i was born in the 90's so, I dont know much about him.
Italy has produced some of the greatest defenders going by what i read and also what i watched in the 2000's

He could do everything as a defender and was as good as a midfielder on the ball. He had unbelievable anticipation and acceleration, and was rarely beaten in the air because of his timing and leaping ability.

Apart from the league title winning defences he played 4 major finals ( 3 champs league and 1 world cup) with his team conceding a total of 1 goal.

More from the God of defending. Even Maradona had to pay tribute.

we were not at any time in control of that match. we were like a lamb led to slaughter. That match was a humilation.

But prior to that match Chelsea just won Huddersfied 5-not and were in high spirits to get at least a draw at the Etihad. The fact that it was a humiliation makes it disappointing na; don't u think?

Man city match was bad, I knew it was over when we conceded those early goals, so I wasn't expecting anything again...

But Spurs own was painful, I was still believing we could come back at 2-0 down until Son carry ball from midfield go score...
That goal still be like film trick for my eye. It touched a spot

Na Jorginho the 'Regista' mark attendance for there grin

Yes not only that and Somethings he did that wouldn't even be a foul would be a red card today. Offside rule was different. The game was slower. The pitches were worse which made it easier to defend against dribblers.

My first football tournament. Vague memories but some stand out.

Like how my older brothers erupted when 'robetobajio' missed that pen.

infact, the whole hood was shouting.

Everybody hated Italy and that guy in particular after the naija game

See how his entire highlight is made up of tackles.

Later Raumdeuter will come and start spouting some made up nonsense about tackles being a mistake.

I don't buy old age story for centrebacks until you clock at least 32. A good centreback should play well till 34 sef.

The tackle issue is not black and white. You might be making a tackle to atone for your own mistake, but the tackle might also to be to atone for your team mates mistake. Or to send a message as Vinnie Jones and Chopper Harris dem used to do back in the day.

However tackles are definitely inferior to interceptions. With interceptions you have lower risk and greater reward and it suggests greater mental aptitude ( reading the game, anticipation).

In that World Cup Final clip Don Franco had like 7 tackles, 7 interceptions, 5 clearances, 4 blocked shots. On one leg, unfit and not training for weeks, at 34yrs of age.

Apart from debilitating injuries a great CB should continue at a high level past 30.

But that rule applies because Boateng and Luis are not great CBs.
