Hello judithidoghogm,

You should print a copy of your DS-160, your appointment confirmation page, and your passport. We do not require any other documents. If the adjudicating officer wants to see anything else, they will let you know at the time of the interview.

judithidoghogm:

Hello Jeffizy101,

Our wait times are currently in the six month range. For example, if you decided today that you wanted to travel to the United States, you would need to wait until mid-September to have your interview. We recommend booking early.

You can check our website to see if any dates are available. If none are available, please check back soon. New dates are released frequently.

Hello Kieranfrench,

Administrative processing can take several months or even over a year in some instances. The length of time depends entirely on the specific circumstances of the individual case.

Kieranfrench:
hello
good day, please does administrative processing really take up to 60 days ?? Heard some got theirs in a week or two.

Hello

Good day, please we need a clarification. A friend of mine whose visa is still valid till November 2019 was turned back mid way to US, when she was connecting to her second flight. She was told that her visa is no longer valid, she was not given any notification prior and was put on a flight back to Nigeria. In a situation like this what can she do to know what actually happened and what she can do going forward. She has been to US severally and she never over stayed her visit for once. We await your kind response.

Good day sir, Please I need some help. Myself and my wife applied for a tourist visa in 2016 with a virgin pass, we where being invited by a childhood friend. But our application was denied base on lack of travel history and lack of home ties, despite the fact that our 2 daughters will be staying back in Nigeria. I am confused what kind of home ties the VO is talking about. Also In our application we claimed to have visited places like France and Dubai in the past with an old non electronic passport which was lost in a fire incident long time ago. I later guessed the VO was suspicious of the lost passport claimed because it wasn't stated in the new electronic passport that we had any passport before.
Now we intend to reapply again, and we intend to travel with the kids. Sir i will appreciate necessary information to aid our application this time around.

Hello USMissionNGRA,

I would like to know if any of the following is possible:

1. I have received my i20 and filled the ds160 form already. Can I schedule a visa appointment earlier than 120days before my program start date (August 15)? I have work free days next week and and it will be easier for me to have the interview next week.

2. I would like to attend a conference in June about 45 days before my program start date so I am also applying for a b1/b2 visa but my interview date in June. Is it possible that while I am being interviewed for my F1 visa in April. I mention the b1/b2 visa application to the consular official and I get interviewed for both and issued both visas?

Hello USMissionNGRA

Please I applied for a visa renewal via Dropbox and got a 221g letter requesting I schedule an interview. I have been unable to secure a date yet yet.
My question is; is it possible to withdraw the current application and then apply afresh again instead of having to just wait an unknown amount of time?
Re: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We're Listening Pt. 3 by bimseydee: 2:50pm On Mar 29, 2019
Hi this situation is quite complex. If someone was in the usa in 2016 and stayed for 2 weeks and then Fast forward to October 2018, the person attempted to apply for renewal through dropbox as the visa was going to expire by November 2018. So he/she went on and submitted documentation for dropbox application although at the point of submission the travel passport still had about 6 months validity on it before it expired however after submission through drop box, this individual then got an email that the passport was being sent back and needs to come in for an interview instead. So she/he went to pick the passport up from DHL in isolo. Upon collection, she/he tried to go online to reschedule and interview and there was no interview dates available then This person kept on checking over the next couple of days and there were still no dates showing up.
This person in question sent an email to the embassy telling them on the situation and the response he/she got back was to keep checking . Finally after some days of checking, this person finally got some date show up on my ustraveldocs dashboard and the earliest of this dates was June 2019.
This person went ahead and chose the earliest date available which was in June, ( 7 months from the attempted dropbox renewal she did in October 2018) .
As mentioned earlier the passport when he/she was about to renew through dropbox in October 2018 was still valid but had about 6 months left to expire- so this clearly means that the passport information filled in the new ds 160 and while booking the interview in ustraveldocs and paying the gtb fee was the passport with 6months validity- however since the individual wasnt granted renewal through dropbox and had to reschedule an interview to go in for an inperson interview and didnt get an early date and the earliest date available was June and by then the same passport which would have been good for the drop box renewal would be expired in June.
The plan when this person initially applied for dropbox with a passport that was almost about to expire ( which is allowed as long as it has at least 6months to expiration on it). was if they get approved with dropbox , they only have to renew the old passport and get a new passport regardless then just carry 2 passports when they travel which is the Expired passport with the visa (if the visa would have been renewed with dropbox) and then carry the old and the new passport with them together so basically They would be traveling with 2 passports that is the old one that has the visa in it and then the new passports and which is something thats allowed.
So in confusion , this individual has gone to renew the passport as it has now expired while awaiting for the interview date and has sent multiple emails to the embassy to rectify but they are not forthcoming. They said It cannot be updated to a new passport because of the Gtbank receipt used in making payment which carries the old passport number.
So i guess my question is - what should this person do? Do they go in for the interview like that or do they have to make another gtbank payment or what?

My wife and I want to visit the US for medical reasons (childbirth) and we do not want to run into any problems. We can afford to pay the bills in full but the hospitals we have contacted around the Houston area all have packages that carry significant discounts for cash payment. Can you please publish a list of acceptable hospitals which are approved by the US government for medical tourism?

Ma/ Sir,

A lot of us paid complete the same bills and correspondence we used in getting the first visa for birthing, so what suddenly changed..
In proving that I can pay my bills, re u telling me that stmt of funds I presented at over N35m balance is not enough to settle medical bills.
After the first visa I used for birthing, I was also issued a second visa which I used for visit, so what’s the problem in this administration
USMissionNGRA:
Hello ctrlunlimited and OmoBendel24,

Our policy is the same as it has always been. We ask all applicants to be honest about their intended activities in the United States, and the interviewing officer must be satisfied that the applicants can afford the kind of travel they are planning. This includes prospective students, business travelers, tourists, and those seeking medical care, and it applies to everyone around the world, regardless of nationality.

If you visit our website at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/tourism-visit/visitor.html, you will see that receiving medical care in the United States on a B1/B2 visa is legal. However, the website also states that applicants must demonstrate that they can afford to pay the "doctors’ fees, hospitalization fees, and all medical-related expenses". Though every situation is different, accepting discounts or paying less than the full amount can raise questions about the applicant's finances, credibility, and their intent and ability to pay for the full cost of their care.

Hello Good day,
i was unable to upload my photo while completing the Ds160 form (didn't reach their photo qualification). Now my profile shows me that i must bring a 5cm by 5cm passport-like photo on the day of my interview. i have submitted my application and scheduled an interview. Now i see from other posts that if photo is not uploaded with the DS160 and submitted online, i would be turned away on interview date. Please what can i do about this

Good day to you. Please, I will like to make an enquiry about my
Visa appointment. On my appointment confirmation page, I have just my first
name and last name. Meanwhile, on my Ds-160 form and
Passport, I have my first name, middle name and last name listed .
I guess this is so because when filling out the appointment profile,I Only
saw the input for first name and then last name.
I am hoping, this will not affect my interview process .

Also, on my passport ,there is an hyphen in my last name, but there is no
provision for an hyphen on the ds-160, so I simply omitted the hyphen on
both the ds-160 and visa appointment page.
Please, I will like to know if I won't be affected with these issues.

Good Day,
The wife gave birth in the US and was invited for an interview after Dropbox didn’t go.
She went and was issued the visa. On her interview day,she was asked if her husband already has a visa and she said NO
Two months later, the husband gets an interview date and as a first time applicant.
He attends his interview and the female consular says why is he here when his wife said he has a visa already.
He was confused at the question and the consular denied him the visa.
And according to him,the consular said his wife will be called in for questioning.
The wife insists she never said he husband has a visa that infact on her ds160 form, when she was asked if the person she will be traveling with has a visa, she said NO.
So please, what does this mean? It is strange as I haven’t heard of this.
Thank you

Hello bucciajayi,

Your friend will be contacted soon and invited to the U.S. Consulate for another interview. She will need to reappear by the time specified in the interview request if she would like her visa to be considered for reinstatement. If she does not reappear by the time specified, her visa will be considered revoked, and if she would like to go back to the U.S. in the future, not only will she need to schedule another interview, she will also need to pay the application fee again. Questions about specific cases can be directed to LagosNIV@state.gov.

Hello pmandzin,

We do not answer questions about specific cases or estimate "chances" of giving visas in this forum. We advise everyone to hold off on making travel plans until their visas and passports are in their hands. This allows for the possibility of being called back for an interview without losing money on tickets and reservations.

Hello diva11,

These are great questions.

1. If there are F1 visa appointments available more than 120 days before your program start date, yes, you can book an appointment for then. However, we cannot issue F1 visas until 120 days or fewer before the program start date, so if the officer intends to issue the visa, he or she will need to put your application in 221g status, or "administrative processing", until the appropriate amount of time has elapsed.

2. Yes, you can add a B1/B2 application to your F1 application. You will need to pay an additional visa application fee and schedule the appointment appropriately. Please ensure you inform our local staff at intake and the American officer that you will be applying for both visas at this time. It is possible that both are issued, both are denied, or that you are issued one while refused the other.

Yes, it is possible, but then you will have wasted $160 on a visa application that you did not see through to completion. The only "advantage" to this is that you might secure a regular visa interview date before a 221g interview date - but you might not.

We do not have a list of acceptable hospitals for any kind of medical treatment, childbirth or otherwise. The onus is on the applicant to do their research, ensure that they do not accept any public funds, and pay all of the costs associated with their treatment in full.

Hello Nonkala,

Without answering questions about specific cases, each applicant must demonstrate that they have both the intent and the ability to pay for their medical care. If someone has previously received medical treatment in the United States, they must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the consular officer that they paid for the full amount of their care and that they can continue to afford to visit the United States for whatever purpose of travel they state. If you have questions about your specific application, please direct them to LagosNIV@state.gov.

Dropbox application comes back with a 221g letter, interview scheduled for almost another three months away. Also applying for a visa to visit Canada from the Canadian Embassy.... In their visa application form, I’m asked if I have been refused a visa before by any country, none has to the best of my knowledge, except this little but big worry that I have. Wondering then if the 221g from the US Embassy means refusal, what is it in this context? Do I assume I have not been refused a visa by any country including the US and state same without fear of being seen to have misrepresented by the Canada Embassy? Thanks

We do not answer questions about specific cases in this forum. Hello OmoBendel24,

Your question was already answered on page 2 of this forum. Our answer has not changed and it is copied below for your convenience. Please review the information at the link provided - it goes into more detail about what exactly "221g" means. If you want to know how the Canadian High Commission will interpret a 221g refusal, you will need to ask them.

Hello OmoBendel24,

As stated above, a 221g refusal "means that not enough information was available at the time of your application for a final decision to be made". More information on 221g refusals is available here: http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-iv-221ginfo.asp

We cannot speak to the internal processes of the Canadian High Commission or the diplomatic missions of any other countries. If you have any further questions related to their visa adjudication standards, please contact them directly.

You would not be turned away completely, but you would only get 60 minutes to upload the photo. Unfortunately, we (the American officers monitoring this forum) do not have a lot of visibility into the scheduling/uploading platform, so it would be best to direct this question to CGI. You can find out how to contact them at the following link: http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-main-contactus.asp

We cannot speak to the internal processes of the Canadian High Commission or the diplomatic missions of any other countries. If you have any further questions related to their visa adjudication standards, please contact them directly.

Sure, I have seen and checked that out, REFUSAL is even written alongside it, limited understanding of it from my end. That’s the reason I asked point blank this time (I don’t want to assume when I can get better clarification from here in my thinking), was avoiding a “diplomatic answer” situation, trying to elicit a straight or broken down answer.

But it’s alright, I move on. Hopefully no one is offended by my limited understanding and recoining of the question. Regards

Hello USMissionNGRA,

Thank you for your reply, I have paid for both visa applications. However, I am unable to schedule for two Visa applications at the same time.
Does this mean that I have to schedule for both one after the other?

Also, when my application is under Administrative processing, does my passport remain with me for submission after administrative processing?

Hello,

I applied to renew my visa via drop box to give birth. A 221g letter was sent to me.I scheduled for an interview. Unfortunately before the interview, i lost the pregnancy. I went for a rescheduled interview months after and explained everything to the VO and she said if i am pregnant and have to give birth in USA, I should declare at the POE and have enough cash to pay my bills.

Now i am going for holiday with the VISA, I hope I wont have any issues at the POE.

Please note i am not pregnant at the moment.
