The National Judicial Council (NJC) rose from an emergency meeting on Wednesday and elected to be silent on its report on the probe of petitions against suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen and Acting CJN, Ibrahim Muhammad.

The NJC, which considered the report of its five-man committee constituted to investigate petitions against Onnoghen and Muhammad, said it has decided to send its report to President Muhammadu Buhari rather than making it public in view of “the nature of the decision reached

Its spokesman, Soji Oye said, in a statement on Wednesday, that the NJC refrained from considering the allegation relating to asset declaration involving Onnoghen, “because it’s was subjudice.”

The statement reads: “The National Judicial Council reconvened today in an emergency meeting to consider the report of the five-man committee constituted to investigate the allegations of misconduct made against Hon. Mr. Justice W. S. N. Onnoghen, GCON and Hon. Mr. Justice I. T. Muhammad, CFR.

“Council decided that the allegations relating to assets declaration that were levelled against Hon. Mr. Justice W. S. N. Onnoghen, GCON were subjudice and therefore abstained from considering them.

“Council reached a decision on the petitions written by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and others and conveyed its decision to President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

“Council also resolved that, by the nature of the decision reached, it would be inappropriate to publicise it before conveying it to Mr. President.”

I think their decision would ridicule the president quick to jump suspension, so they rather give him the honours of bringing onnoghen back from suspension. While saving face for Buhari, Onnoghen and Tanko who is due for retirement in a few weeks.

I HIGHLY SUSPECT THAT ONNOGEN WAS FOUND INNOCENT AND TANKO WAS FOUND GUILTY! SO THEY DECIDED TO SHOW BUHARI HIS FVCK UP BEFORE IT GOES PUBLIC!!

What if it’s the opposite of what you wrote here... in less than a month the whole world will know if Tanko is going to be Appointed as the Substantive CJN.

The National Judicial Commission ia actually a Federal EXECUTIVE body! It is not a body that reports to the Judiciary, rather it reports to the President.

Grab a copy of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) and go through it.

This NJC are unserious, they are only trying not to heat up the polity, which buhari has already heated up. Why sending the report to the same executive that publicised the disgrace of a CJN with total disregard for the law and NJC.

In saner climes this report would be made public.

The Judiciary needs to man up and be a truly independent body. angry

Why the secrecy.
Does Buhari report to the judiciary before taken a decision and the National Assembly so why is the NJC report to the president on this.
This goes to show that there is no separation of power.
When I will going to get it right in this country.

You've never been particularly bright.

The NJC was supposed to advise the president on its recommendation. Wasn't that what you idiots clamored for when PMB suspended the crooked judge?

Now it's done and you're still wailing, instead of to wait for the next step....

Obviously based on that writeup.they dont want to embarrass the corrupt cjn in the media.the want to give him the last respect before he is retired.theres no way he won't be indicted for one charge or count.even if he is found innocent, they will recommend his retirement.....

You guys had no idea of the law. NJC has zero power. What they do is recommend.

What ever they have in their recommendation, they do not want the president to override them which may cause a public outcry from people like you when they know that the president is not bound to their recommendation. It could also affect their council negatively or their personal capacities since Buhari's action can ridicule the council.

They took the best action such that whatever the president does, the true position of the NJC will not be known and the reputation of the council will be intact whether Buhari goes for or against their recommendation.
