NotComplaining:Where are the youths who will excel in these positions of excellence and not abuse their privilege or perform suboptimally ![]() Where are the youths who have cut their teeth in the private sector successfully, learnt the ethics, attitude and hardwork necessary to excel in these positions.... On Instagram slaying up and down... Look at the middle belt and one can observe a certain youthful leader who has not provided much governance and uplifted the people of his state. Don't be deceived, the youth who are deserving get there. Don't expect to be a leader if you have not served well... . |

Tedpgrass:Dont be deceived?? My friend you have been deceived! Those you mentioned as incapable are the products of generations of rott created by our parents! Thats the simple truth. Anyone can be a criminal and anyone can be a leader! The system is fully responsible for moulding leaders. Have you not seen the classrooms that resemble prison cells, what sort of material do you think will graduate from such institution? Was Buhari, Tinubu or whoever of that generation educated in such a vacuum? The truly great will always be one in a million but at least the masses must enjoy a certain level of priviledge and equity. The older generation are squarely the reason for the comatose of our systen. What have they left for us to inherit? You might be priviledged but for God sake look beyond your selfrighteousness to those who grew up lacking everything you had. Only the youth can pity the youth, just as the old pity their school days croonies. Leaders are made not born. Those you mentioned can be rehabilitated and reeducated. Everyone needs inspiration to match their aspirations. |

NotComplaining:I don't disagree with your current submission but still stand with mine. As it takes 2 to tango.. Despite shortcomings from our leaders, there are a few select men and women who stand firm and tall and can be counted. They are all not necessarily privileged but have risen despite opposition. Why can't we learn from these ones whilst trying to sort the system out. ![]() Yes, the system has not enabled or developed a lot of youths. The ongoing rot will make the problem worse. But there has to be some youths who dare to be the Josephs or Daniels of their generation... They show resilience in the face of great adversity, adaptability without breaking the rules, innovation and creativity. Good work ethics is their cornerstone. Sacrifice and intense focus is a very visible accessory. But what we have largely is a generation or 2 of youths who feel very entitled and expect to have a cushioned lifestyle at the drop of a hat. Hardwork? Sacrifice? What does that mean? I feel poverty starts with the mind.. Though there's a lack of physical things, a very focused mind seeks to find resources relentlessly. Life can be full of hardknocks and my empathy goes to those who are yet to fly off despite being on the runway for a while.. There are leadership academies dotted around. There are mentors who aren't necessary visible and full of bling given the system and society. There are places of learning or better still the Internet is available to all who have basic devices and some data. But where do we find most of our youths... Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, living a blinged up existence, following BBNaija up and down.. Some can write a dissertation on the characters in those shows or on some of our musicians/actresses... But write a decent business proposal with a robust 10 paged SWOT analysis, suddenly the pen gets dry. Other established governments may enable their youth better than ours but it is mainly and only to continue a "serfdom" of sorts.. I would not celebrate them too soon. Our leaders have realised,..... give back robustly to society at your own detriment.. You'll be ostracised regardless of how well you perform. Mostly by armchair critics who have hardly raised their arms to work A good example is a certain local govt in Benue state. But give drips back and foster an atmosphere of being a benevolent helper inspite of great economic hardship and suddenly you are hailed a hero.. In addition there will be fewer cooks to spoil the broth. Half knowledge applied out of context is a very dangerous thing!!! Government is not all to blame.. The inherent pre-existing belief or cultural identity in certain tribes has a contributory role.. This perpetrates even in other established climes as certain tribes/ peoples perform better than others because of the existing support networks and their congenial interactions with their host communities underpinned by belief system. In a country with 365 languages and still counting, it will be a rather herculean task to align all the peoples into a mindset without a longstanding dictator... The places of religion, effective tools in the past, are no longer as effective as a growing number are reflecting the differences in opinion underpinned by the rot and greed of the system. All we can do ..... is to let your little light shine ..... Reach out and touch somebody's hand to make the world a better place... Continually strive to hold the powers to account, educate the people about their rights and privileges within context. . |

Tedpgrass:My friend you have not grasped the problem Nigeria is facing and it's really a shame. How these ageists beguile you into blaming men of your peers... The problem of social media craze that has hooked our generation stems from lack of responsibilities. These ageists have allowed us to wallpw aimlessly like froth on the ocean while they extend age of retirement to 80. Positions that should normally be filled by young agile minds are being occupied by senile ageist forces. They do not intend on ever relinquishing their position, they want to die there like a monarch. And for every one that is in such a position, a young star is dying and becoming more hopeless. Nigeria has one of the youngest populations in the world, even younger than China, but why doesnt our polity reflect this fact? Septuagenerian ageists would rather employ their childhood crony than a young independent youth! We scare them! They cant understand our modus operandi, are we advocates or game changers? Auditors or apologists? Will we turn a blind eye to the years of depraved plundering and cronyism or take it all away from them? And this leads me to your point of individuals who have beat the system. Yes there will be some examples of honest men who God has graced and have become respectful contributing citizens, but the vast majority are the children of these wicked ageists who receive a free pass to all the best jobs, many without necessary credentials. The examples of the tyranny are too many to list, but recent examples includes former Gov of Ogun State Amosun who wanted to place his son in law as the new governor so he could continue looting while his escapades are prevented from surfacing. This is the system you are here defending against a backdrop of massive youth unemployment. |

NotComplaining:I hear you.. But.. In striving for a change, a total rewrite has never produced long lasting success. All it has created is chaos and repetitive efforts stylised under different names with diminishing returns. I still maintain that wanting to work with the current system whilst engineering a change in direction has to be the best foot forward. You said it yourself the ageists are worried that a gargantuan change may happen on their watch. And of course their corrupt practices exposed.. Short of taking out their entire generation, which is not feasible and will create a massive chaotic upheaval affecting generations yet unborn with ripples extending way past our borders and the African continent as a whole, its best to create dialogue with these folks. Their children get unlimited access because they keep to the status-quo and maintain that dialogue.. Not necessarily due to the similar genetic pools. That's what the youth should be thinking... How do we engage effectively with the system, create a voice that speaks for us. In business, there are strategies to re-engineer business processes and buy goodwill and support from different stakeholders. Why apply a different process in public governance?? The current youthful leaders in the Senate or gubernatorial leads have no distinct youth empowering initiatives. Clowning, womanizing and stealing upandan seems to be their modus operandi. They should be held to account. But if we cant deal with them, ye ageist are out of reach, mate!! No wonder the ageists assert their hegemony/monopoly. The few allowed youths have misused several opportunities. And we are still not addressing the problems from their roots. . |
