Let Nina's age be denoted with x, her mum's denoted with y and her dad's z

From the questions,

y= 2x....... Equation 1
y + 5 = z...... Equation 2
x+ y +z = 100 ..... Eqn 3

Substituting eqn 1 into eqn 2 for your

2x + 5 = z..... Eqn 4

Substituting for eqn 4 into eqn 3 for z

x + 2x +2x + 5 = 100

Adding items with x

5x + 5 = 100

Subtracting 5 from both sides,

5x = 100 - 5

5x = 95

Divide both sides by 5

x = 95/5

x = 19

Substituting 19 for x in eqn 1

y = 2(19)

y = 38

Substituting for x and y in eqn 3

19 + 38 + z = 100

57 + z = 100

Subtract 57 from both sides

z = 100-57

z = 43

Recal that x denotes Nina's age, y her mum's and z her dad's.

Therefore,

Nina is 19

Her mum is 38

Her Dad 43

100 - 43 = 57 , 43 - 5 = 38 & 38÷2= 19; Therefore 43+38+19=100, So the child is 19 yrs old

A girl went to school and the teacher asked, how old are you? She replied I don't know but I know that I'm half my mother's age.

The teacher asked OK how old is your mother? She said I don't know but I know that my dad is 5 years older than my mother.

The teacher, then asked how old is your dad? She said I don't know but I know that if we add our ages the answer is 100 years...

Now, how old is the girl, her mum, and her dad?

Please show your workings!

Girl = x
Mother = 2x
Dad = 2x + 5

- Girl + Mother + Dad = 100
- x + 2x + (2x + 5) = 100
- 5x = 100 - 5
- 5x = 95
- x = 95/5
- x = 19

- Girl = 19
- Mother = 2 x 19 = 38
- Dad = 38 + 5 = 43

Let daughter's age be d
That makes mom's age 2d and dad's own 2d+5
d + 2d + ( 2d + 5 ) = 100
d + 2d + 2d +5 = 100
5d + 5 =100
5d = 100 - 5 = 95
d = 95/5 =19
daughter's age is therefore 19 and mom's is 19 X 2 = 38 and dad's is mom's own + 5 and therefore 43
19 + 38 + 43 = 100

I Like the way you break it down. Thumb up!

Let mother's age be x, then the girl's age will be x/2 being the half of her mother's.
Since the father's age is 5 years greater than the mother's, his age will be x+5.
According to the girl, the sum of their ages is 100. Therefore,
girl's age (x/2 years)+ mother's age(x years) + father's age((x+5)years) = 100.
Now, x/2 + x + x+5= 100
2x + x/2 = 100-5
2x + x/2 = 95
4x + x = 190
5x = 190
x = 190/5
x= 38.
Therefore, the mother is 38 years old, the girl is 19 years old and her dad is 43 years old.

The clue is there. . Didn't you go to school
Girl = ½ of mum age
Mum is 5 years lesser than dad

Divide the mum's age by 2 = girls age
Add 5 to mum's age = fathers age

It's deduction
The clue is if you were my student I will reduce your mark. Instead of 10/10 you get 6/10

First find the log of both sides
Log(√2 +1)^x+ log (√2 -1)^x = log34
xlog(√2 +1) + xlog(√2 -1) = log34
x[log (√2 +1) + log(√2 -1)]= log34
xlog[(√2 +1)(√2 -1)]=log34
xlog(2-1) = log34
x = log34/log1
x=log34-log1

ifada123:

Try this sir
Solve
(√2 +1)^x +(√2 -1)^x=34
(√2 +1)^x +(√2 -1)^x=34........eq 1

√2 +1 is actually equal to 1/(√2 -1). So one is the inverse of the other. We can use this relationship to solve further:

Let a = √2 +1.........eq 2

Therefore (√2 +1)^x becomes a^x and (√2 -1)^x becomes a^(-x). Thus eq 1 becomes:

a^x + a^(-x) = 34........eq 3

Let a^x = y.....eq 4

Therefore eq 3 becomes:

y + 1/y = 34......eq 5

Solving eq 5 further gives the quadratic equation:

y^2 - 34y + 1 = 0.....eq 6

y = 17 + 12√2.....eq 7 and
y = 17 - 12√2......eq 8

Recall that y = a^x and that a = √2 +1. Thus eq 7 and 8 becomes:

(√2 +1)^x = 17 + 12√2.....eq 9 and
(√2 +1)^x = 17 - 12√2.....eq 10

Solving eq 9:
(√2 +1)^x = 17 + 12√2
Find log of both sides:
Log (√2 +1)^x = Log (17 + 12√2)
x Log (√2 +1) = Log (17 + 12√2)
Thus x = Log (17 + 12√2)/Log (√2 + 1) = 4

Similarly, solving eq 10 gives:
x = Log (17 - 12√2)/Log (√2 + 1) = -4

In conclusion, the answer is ±4
