Necessity and Business, when the biz collapsed I felt like selling the car but I couldn't so people will not know I'm broke.

I only drive it on weekend cos Lagos traffic with my nature of job doesn't allow driving during the week.

Since 2014 that I bought the car from Canada I never use 2500 mileage

This topic is very important. But most people will think otherwise. Car is a luxury that can cripple your savings and concentration for years. Thus one most set his priority right before buying one.

From my experience, a landed property is the first thing to acquire. Then others could follow. However it is natural to go for a car, saying it is a necessity. Is a car really a necessity relative to a house - the answer is a resounding NO.

Car basically is for prestige and not necessarily a necessity. One can get a cab any time of the day, even by 1am if one sets his priority right.


I also made the mistake of buying the liability before I got my first house, and most persons will never listen to advise. They will go for car before a landed property.

A car is just a claßsy girl friend that reaps you dry.

Not true at all.
Well,everyman to his own.
A sound golf 3 or 4,Toyota corolla 99-2002,Nissan almera and many cars in that bracket can never amount to luxury to anybody who has a reasonable income.
And even here in Abuja that has reasonably good/best in Nigeria transport system,You can't get a cab easily every time except you live in Wuse or few places.
If its early in d morning b4 daybreak, You might have to trek.
Then if you run a business that requires you waka a lot,owning a small car is even cheaper than taking cabs.The cab man is out there to make money too.
Personally, if I were a business man,I'd rather use 2m and rent a good house inside Abuja town than use 70-100million to buy Abuja overpriced houses.

A small fuel efficient car is a real necessity.
It can help to acquire money for land and other things

Imagine taking public transport to church with wife and kids every Sunday,your neighbour go come pass you with him own family inside him golf 3 after you done alight from bus stop de trek home under hot sun with your family abi your wife going for immunisation with your baby on public transport then it rains on her way home?
What about d risk of one chance,reckless driving and associated accidents,crowded dirty bus/fellow passengers, wey b say b4 you reach home your white shirt go turn to rainbow ?
There are plenty car brands out there that are cheap to buy and maintain.

Mine, Mazda 626 with booth.
It was my Range Rover sport classic, my hilux my family car.
It was indeed my first love.
I refused to sell it. Instead, I gave it out to a friend.
But he later sold it.
Whenever I see any one using that car, it reminds me of my days of little beginning.

There are other responsibilities that face a man: build a House, training your younger ones,getting married, etc.
