The issue is, no one will shout this to the rooftop unlike when the President is from another part of the country.

The word Integrity needs to be redefined.

Re: FG Spent N731 Billion To Subsidise Inflated Petrol Imports - World Bank by Reference(m): 9:22pm On Apr 10, 2019
Once again I cannot hold back my anger at what this criminal policy of fuel subsidy is all about. I cannot for the life of me understand how the ordinary citizen has been conned by the recklessly corrupt establishment to continue this robbery.

Can you imagine how the so called subsidy payments have escalated to over 700 billion in the year under review due primarily to smuggling. At a time when the government is borrowing willy nilly to float the budget and considering raising VAT and seeking to craft other taxes. Folks, what means is that the government is effecribely borrowing money and handing it over to smugglers.

Now, what happened to smugglers in 2017, where were they only to arise massively in 2018. I will tell you. The NNPC is what happened. As usual the cartels within that criminal organzarion are directly responsible for smuggling. They know the what, when and where of these products being the sole importers. The secrecy this present government has accorded the subsidy regime will only lead to massive losses to the Nigerian treasury and deepening poverty to the average citizen.

Citizens should understand and consider this. To condone the continuation of this subsidy regime in its present form is like a country paying social security without a knowledge of its population demographics or the documentation of its citizens. It will lead to massive corruption, gouging of the system and terrible losses.

Nigerians should realise that on balance petroleum subsidies are making Nigerians poorer and a few corrupt government officials rich.

Those blaming buhari for anything are mad. Buhari doesn't know his left from right except when reading Arabic writings.

Atiku knew if if we don't unbundle nnpc, sooner or later, it will kill Nigeria but you people went to town quoting dude out of context to decieve your teeming dull supporters. Yeyenatus.

If the report is true and a precise version of what is actually happening, then this is a classic case of robbing Peter to pay Paul. Let's see how long it lasts.
How long it lasts? It's a vicious cycle.

Where are the refineries that buhari promised?

Didn't he say he didn't know what subsidy was?

Didn't he say he increased pump rice to eliminate subsidy? Only for Nass to expose them. That's what they mean when they say saraki was impeding the country's progress. He refused to rubber stamp everything brought to his table.

His henchmen are either cooking up figures to cover their loot or they are diverting the actual products to the black market still for their own interests.

The reason Nigerians are being roundly deceived by this government is the millions of naira spent on online and traditional media.

This subsidy under recovery farce is not news, they have paid handsomely to handle public relations and messaging.

Oil sector productivity declined despite healthy prices

Chineme Okafor in Abuja

A World Bank report called the “Nigeria Biannual Economic Update” for 2018, which was released on Monday and obtained by THISDAY yesterday in Abuja disclosed that Nigeria spent N731 billion to subsidise petrol consumption in the year under review.

The report, which is a product of the staff of the World Bank and tells of key developments in Nigeria’s economy in the recent past, summarises the staff’s assessment of likely economic outcomes in the short-to-medium term, given the policy developments; as well as highlights key short-term risks in the country

It explained that within the year under consideration, Nigeria’s oil sector declined in its productivity, ending on 1.9 million barrels a day (mbd) production mark as against the government’s hope of 2.3mbd.
Additionally, it stated that the Excess Crude Account (ECA), which provides the country some fiscal buffer, was virtually depleted even though prices of Nigeria’s Bonny Light blend was averagely $21 per barrel more than the oil price that was or budgeted for in the year.

The World Bank had in November 2018 stated in another report titled: ‘Nigeria Bi-annual Economic Update for Fall 2018,’ that petrol subsidy deductions for 2017 full year was N107.3 billion, but its current report showed that N731 billion was spent in 2018 alone.

According to it, most of the petrol volumes Nigeria spent money to subsidise in 2018 were inflated as daily consumption rose to 54 million litres per day (ml/d) from 40ml/d in 2017, ostensibly due partly to out-smuggling.
“Oil and gas revenue collection increased in 2018 but remained below potential. Net oil and gas revenues retained in the federation account grew by 73 per cent in nominal terms: as oil production remained stable, the increase has been driven by the oil price.
