I am a die hard fan Of President Muhammadu Buhari ,

But conscience is an open wound only the truth can heal it

Gej May have allowed some overzealous people to run the government for him

He may have allowed some miscreants to have a field day

One thing you can take away from him is he over performed more than the current administration in terms of the Almajiri school taking away kids from the streets

On this I doff my hat for you

there will always be bad people around every good person.

I still believe that with the right support from well meaning Nigerians Jonathan would have overcome the bad people that surrounded him than pushing him away completely. Many of them already left the PDP at a time and joined the apc.

We were scammed with the "CHANGE" story....we bought it and lost a true Leader.

We didn't learn our lesson. . . we decided to vote for "NEXT LEVEL"

Our troubles have just begun.

I disagree with the whole concept of almajiri school. Like the proverb says " you can take a horse to the river, but you cannot force the horse to drink". The northerners never said education was their number one priority. Their number one priority is farming and cattle herding. To them Boko is Haram, so primary and secondary education should be left to the state governments. If the state see education as a priority, they should invest more in it. Afterall the FG gives states grants under the universal basic education scheme.

The almajiri school program was ill conceived and poorly executed. How was it supposed to be run and maintained. Was the FG to also run the schools along with the over 100 unity schools? So what happened to the schools after Jonathan left? We're the schools destroyed and the pupils and teachers sent home? I believe the almajiri school thing was just a campaign gimmick.
This was not the first time a similar program was tried. Jubril Aminu came up with the idea of nomadic schools, that too failed woefully.

If the government at the federal level cannot give kids such as the almajiris education in this 21st century even if it means forcing them I wonder what their business in governance is.

The failure of those almajiri schools cannot be heaped on Jonathan but on the successive govt that failed to continue the policy.

Jonathan also performed in the area of agriculture in the north.

Did the northerners tell Jonathan that they want and need almajiri education? Various state governments in the past had tried to force northerners to send their kids to school and failed, why did Jonathan think he will succeed in changing their minds.

Read this report to get a better perspective;

Al Majiri education: Journey to nowhere
adekunle adekunle - 7 years ago
The al Majiri phenomenon is a cultural product of the Islamic North. Up till this day, there are sections of the lower classes of which truly believe what Boko Haram has been frank enough to proclaim publicly: That Western education is a sin against Islam. Unfortunately, there are also otherwise well-educated people with a reactionary mindset that fuel this perception among the lower classes, though they send their own children to the best Western-education schools!

In 1988, inhabitants of a village called Alawa in Niger State abandoned their village and fled to a nearby kindred in Kaduna State because the then Military Governor, Col Lawan Gwadabe, introduced compulsory and free Western education up to primary school level. They sneaked in during the day to work their farms and returned to their hideout during the night.

Unless the North is ready to change this harmful cultural practice which breeds al majirai in millions, any effort by the Federal Government to fund “al Majiri education” will end up just like Professor Jibril Aminu’s Nomadic Education: another bonanza for the parasitic elite; a reward for Boko Haram’s murderous and nihilist campaigns in the North.

Read this report to get a better perspective;

You will not understand until you know that sending those kids to school is one of the priority of every government.
Whether their parents think otherwise or not is immaterial.
There is nobody in the world today that do not know the importance of basic education ,the more the north deprive them of it the more the north suffers.

A responsible government must carry it's obligation of providing education and that is what Jonathan stood for.

You fail to answer the question, what happened to the almajiri schools? If it was properly conceived and implemented with legislative and legal backing, I am sure no government can cancel it, like unity schools.
How many pupils did the schools graduate?
