Liverpool were only the better team in the first 30mins of the 2 legged tie last season. It is one of the vagaries of football.

If you are asking why the same things won't happen this season. 1. This City team is better than that one (for e.g they deserved to beat Liverpool home and way this season). 2. Pep is a better manager this season. He has absolutely demolished every big team at the Etihad this season.

Putting the two together, Tottenham will need nothing short of a miracle to come out victorious after the second leg. I won't make any bold predictions, but it could be Pochettino's worst loss as a manager of Tottenham. It is not being boastful. This City team is so much better on their day.
