Well, a fact remains that nearly all of them involved in the northern military conspiracies in this histroy of Nigeria have all had one woeful nemesis befelling them or the other.

But it seems to me like Ojukwu's fate was worse. He literally became an Imbelice. And he died a frustrated and unfulfilled man.

Even the igbos never voted for him in any elections. At least, Gen. Gowon is highly respected today, and considered a Statesman.

The question is: Who knows Ojukwu?

Yakubu Gowon has a great name in not just Nigerian history, but Africa as a whole. He could have gloated in victory, but chose to embrace the vanquished. He declared no victor or vanquished in the aftermath of the war. Because being the wise person he is, he knows that everyone looses when relationships degenerate into a war. Unfortunately, over 50years after the war, some myopic and selff seeking people still play the ethnic card to promote their personal agendas.

General Yakubu Gowon being told he had been overthrown as the Head of State in Nigeria while he was away attending an Organization of African Unity conference in Uganda, on the 29th of July 1975.

He was very shocked at first, immediately he arose from his sit at the African Unity conference, while moving out of the conference he was being interviewed by foreign Journalist, who were very desperate to know maybe he was aware of the news of his overthrown as the Head of state.

You sound like you have selective amnesia of Nigeria's history.

You are quick to point a finger at the North but have forgotten that the South east orchestrated the first coup in Nigeria's history. They did it mercilessly, killing any Northerner in their way to install Aguiyi Ironsi and his south east crew.

South east still carries that mistrust on their backs till date. Those band of south east soldiers are responsible to what befell the region but after all these years, the south easterners are unrepentant and still have refused to politically align with either the North or the South west leading to the political island they sit on today.

Even the South south they align with, they have done so to keep them politically enslaved to the south east but the south south have found their own voice, thank God.

Gowon messed up and his decisions in those events played a massive role in causing the civil war.

Crushing a rebellion and crushing people isn’t the same. It is unfortunate that to crush the rebellion, people had to die. But even if he said something wrong, should you not show more wisdom and compassion?

Who were the active coup plotters? Who were the victims?

Are you familiar with theses names, "Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu and Emmanuel Ifeajuna" who were the coup leaders.

They eliminated the Prime minister and every Senior military officer around Ironsi including their wives only stopping at Aguiyi Ironsi. They practically cleared at path for 1 person.

On thing you dont understand is that coup, were carried out by middle ranks of the army not senior officers. Coup that brought Gowon was plain retaliatory. Imagine that General Ironsi was the senior, the next was Lt Colonels, Ojukwu and the Gowon were next. It meant the ones in between were killed by the January 1966 coup

It was the first and bloodiest coup Nigeria has ever seen and it was by Igbo's. History has that written in stone, you can only pretend not to be aware but ignorance is not an excuse.

Either you find history and read or you remain ignorant of history.

Lastly, Gowon became president as a junior to Ojukwu because the north had not trust for anyone from the South east due to the mistrust of the 1966 coup. Besides, Ojukwu hid himself, couse he would have been killed along with Ironsi. That trust is what the Northerners dont have over 50years after. Those soldiers did bad for the South east, Ojukwu made it worst, and the rest of Igbos still support what happened so Igbos still cant be trusted. That coup was a very bad thing and never received condemnation from the Igbo's.

Thank God that inspite of everything thing igbos have suffered in Nigeria, they are still living far better than you and your people.
