Hello USMissionNGRA,

I did my interview today and I was only able to interview for one class of visa- the B1/B2 visa. Unfortunately I was not approved for the B1/B2 visa, how long do I have to wait before I can schedule my F1 visa appointment?

Read the refusal letter (Coloured paper) given to you, you should be advised on when you can apply regardless of which visa type you which to apply for next. but i think you can apply anytime.....

Once you are saying the truth, Just be yourself, visa approval has gone beyond someone ordinary! You av to be the right man that deserve it! My own advise is that just say the truth, if you are issued, Good, and make sure you remain that way and continuing doing the right. and If otherwise take it as it comes, your joy will be full if you know you'd say the truth because you can always retry... the truth shall set you free sooner or later. But once you lied, my brother you will need 100 lies to cover up. I wish you the very best in ur interview.

Hello everyone, I will to ask some questions here regarding non-migrant visa, pls I will appreciate your replies.
5yrs ago, I applied for a b1/b2 visa at the US embassy, I was a car dealer at the time and I stated same. During the interview, I was asked to present the bill of laden which I stated was not with me at the time. The visa was denied.
Knowing why I was denied, I booked another interview within two months and I presented the bill of laden. First the vo asked if I knew why I was denied the first tome and I stated that it was because I was without my bill of laden. She asked if I was with it and I said yes. Shortly after, she left her sit and liase with the woman that denied me the first time. When she returned, she collected all the documents and took them inside for about 5-10mins. When she returned she asked what position I held in the company and I told her I was the chairman, and she said “you’re the chairman and you have never traveled before”? I stated that I had visited MALAYSIA and South Africa, she didn’t listen but denied the visa.
Fast forward to 2018, I applied together with my wife, the VO asked all her questions about her job, my job and where we would like to visit. We answered all these and she asked if my wife was pregnant and we answered in the affirmative. She asked if we would like to give birth in the US and we replied NO. Then she said in case you’ll like to give birth in the US, get a dr and all the rest I wasn’t even listening, and she stated we were not eligible at that time.
We(me, wife and son) have another interview scheduled for later this year, and here is my concern, I have another company now which started less than a year ago and this is what I intend to fill in my Dstv-160, should I be concerned that I was a chairman of a company in 2015(the company folded to to new policy on car importation), 2018 a director in another company (still a director in that company though) but now presenting another new company(Enterprise) during the interview? Or should I maintain the previous company used during my last interview?
Hello Jeffizy101,

Our wait times are currently in the six month range. For example, if you decided today that you wanted to travel to the United States, you would need to wait until mid-September to have your interview. We recommend booking early.

You can check our website to see if any dates are available. If none are available, please check back soon. New dates are released frequently. OK thanks very much

Hello everyone,

The last U.S. Immigration Questions thread is no longer monitored by LagosNIV or AbujaNIV. We have created a new account, USMissionNGRA, in order to answer your questions jointly.

Hello VO,

My husband is a us citizen and filed for my baby, we had the interview on the 28th of march which was successful ,we were given 2-3 weeks.

Is there a way we can track to know the status of a CRBA

Hello USMissionNGRA,

Thank you for the help you've been rendering. Mine is a feedback. I attended an interview in Lagos yesterday, and the document control officials (I believe CGI or something like that, I didn't particularly note the name) were requesting for letters of introduction to the Embassy as part of the required documents. Some applicants who did not have letters of introduction were turned back. Mine was BVIS and yet they requested for a letter of introduction. My visa was approved without the consular officer requesting for any document. Now if the letter of introduction is still just a supporting document as it used to, then they shouldn't turn it into a required document, except if the Embassy instructed them to do so. I just thought I should bring this to the notice of the Mission.

Hi,
My issue is quite complex. I have an important conference to attend at the University of Virginia, USA from June 17-21, 2019. However the nearest available interview appointment time in Nigeria is August 22, 2019. I requested for an expedited interview process and was denied. However, I will be travelling to Japan on a tourist visa from May 23-June 7, 2019:

1) Can I schedule my visa interview at the US Embassy in Tokyo instead (their nearest available date is April 18, 2019)?

2) Can I cancel my previous appointment (the one I created just so I can activate the Request an Expedited interview button) on my US Embassy in Nigeria portal and use the same MRV receipt number to schedule an interview in Tokyo during my visit dates (I have to create a new account on the Embassy in Japan's website)?

3) Can I use thesame Ds-160 form that I previously used to apply for a US visa in Nigeria to schedule my new interview date in Tokyo?

4) Does my visiting Japan on a tourist visa affect my interview decision?

Thanks in advance!

i had my first US visa in 2014, i used it once. i renewed it in 2016 through Dropbox, however i didn't use the visa because shortly after i got the visa i had a miscarriage(i didn't know i was pregnant) .i had complications from the miscarriage i had to go through invitro fertilization.and i didn't want to risk having another miscarriage. the visa expired 2018 august. i couldn't travel then because my baby was just 4 months. fast forward to Dec 2018 i applied for another visa through drop box because i had weaned her off breast milk and needed a vacation as i havent had one in 3 years. my passport was returned and i was given a 221g form and asked to reschedule an interview, which i did. my interview was denied on the 4th of february based on 214b denial. my husband doesnt have a usa visa and doesn't intend on getting one any time soon because he visits the UK frequently.i was asked if he had a visa, i answered appropriately. was asked why i didnt use the last visa i told them so. so i want to know why i was denied

Hello USMissionNGRA,

I applied for dropbox earlier this month. I have tried to track my passport on the cgi website but the status has changed from 'your passport is with the consulate' to 'document delivery information'. I try to click on the tab but it does not open. I also tried to check on ustraveldocs website and that has also changed from 'your passport is with the consulate' to 'There is no status update available for the passport number submitted'. I have not received any email or any other communication regarding my application.

What does this mean?

Hello Novoct,

Wearing a headscarf will not impact her visa adjudication in any way. She is free to dress however she feels most comfortable.

Novoct:
Dear VO,
Thank you for your guidance, it has been very helpful. Well done.

I have a 221g interview( from drop box) next week. My daughter did not use a head covering( like an hijab or scraf) in her passport because she was much younger at the time of issuing the passport. At the time of taking the passport photo for this renewal, the photographer advised not to use her scarf because she did not use it in her passport booklet.
My question is, would you advise whether or not to use her scarf when appearing for the interview?
Thank you.

Hello kingz044,

If you are not visiting the person you are speaking of, you do not need to fill in his address. We generally do not require medical tests for non-immigrant visa applicants; if you are required to visit our panel physician, you will be informed of that at the time of your interview.

Hello estijaz,

These are great questions.

1. Yes, you can schedule a visa interview at US Embassy Tokyo, but it's not necessarily advisable. We generally ask people to apply for visas in their countries of normal residence. This is because applicants need to demonstrate strong ties outside of the United States, and it might be more difficult for a consular officer outside of Nigeria to determine that you have strong ties to Nigeria.

2. Unfortunately, you would need to pay the fee again and use a new MRV number to apply anywhere outside of Nigeria.

3. No, you cannot use the same DS-160. You will need to fill out a new application.

4. Long story short, it might. The answer to question 1 should help to explain why.

Good morning USMissionNGRA,

I have a question on behalf of a friend. I was discussing with a frustrated friend of mine who was supposed to have an interview on the 18th of April for a visiting visa to the US. She was to visit with her son in order to attend her cousin's graduation and equally do some shopping for her approaching wedding.
However, during the course of her preparation, she got an email that her interview had been rescheduled to a later date (May 14th). The graduation for which she was purposely visiting the US is to take place on the 2nd of May, which means that she won't be able to attend the graduation.
Because she has exceeded the limit, she could not cancel the rescheduled date except she's going to pay for another Visa fee for herself and her son. Meanwhile her cousin still wants her to come over for the 4th of July celebration, during which they can both do the wedding shopping. My friend does not like idea because 4th of July will be very close to her wedding date and she thought she might not get a lot done if she only returns to the country barely 2.5 weeks to her wedding.

My question now is that is it possible for her to arrive earlier than the date specified on the DS160 as the intended date of arrival if her application is approved? This she wants to know so that she can make appointments with Wedding Dress stores for a wedding dress try-out. She had earlier booked a couple of appointments with a few stores which she had to cancel when her interview was rescheduled.
Also what's her odd of approval? Note this is someone that runs a registered training institute in partnership with a couple of private institutions...

Hello USMissionNGRA.

I had my visa interview today and here’s how it went.

Can you help me with your passport?
*presents passport

Who are you going to visit in the US?
My eldest brother and his family.

*presents invitation letter
That’s not necessary.

How long has he been in the US?
About 10 years.

And your mum is In the US?
She isn’t currently. She came for my dad’s funeral

Where do you work?
I own a tech and marketing company, [insert name].

Are you married?
No

Do you have have any kids?
No

I’m sorry you do not qualify. You will need someone to stand in for you.

My question is what do they mean by “you will need someone to stand in for you?”

Secondly, My eldest bro is a citizen and he’s the one sponsoring the trip. Why wasn’t I allowed to at least present the invitation letter?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Hello USMissionNGRA

I booked a 221G follow-up appointment for a B1/B2 visa application last year for a date in May 2019. I canceled this appointment last week because I wanted to book an appointment for an F-1 visa after making a new payment. I could not make this new booking because the portal restricted me to booking only the 221G follow-up appointment. I have had several correspondences with the CGI team. The final response I received was I needed to proceed with the 221G appointment; the only time I can make a fresh application is after one year of my 221G issuance.

The May date cannot be reinstated and the interview date option available for the 221G follow-up is in September 2019. The school's resumption is in August 2019.

What can I do?

Thanks.

Hello,

Please what exactly is the processing time for applications sent via dropbox. It's been over a month since my mom sent her documents and we have tried to check the status on ceac and cgi websites but it's only showing case open for interview. I have also emailed through Lagos Dropbox but there's been no response since last week. She has gone to Portharcourt dhl office to check on it and they said it's not yet ready. What else can we do please? Thanks.

Hello snowland,

We do not comment on the "odds" of anyone getting a visa.

Your friend should be forthcoming about her intended dates and purpose of travel. We understand that it can be difficult to edit applications once they have been submitted, but she should make sure to tell the interviewing officer what her actual plans are. It is important to remember that CBP is the final authority on who is admitted to the U.S. - if your friend is issued a visa and CBP finds that your friend misrepresented her travel plans to the consular officer, they might turn her around at the airport.
