As much as I want to query the governor for the rise in insecurity in rivers state,governor wike just like other governors are not in charge of security in their various states!

Forget about the "chief security officer" tag on each governor,they are not in charge of the security personnel of the state....the federal government is the one in charge!
They are the ones in charge of posting of police commissioners and whatever concerns policing in Nigeria!

This is why the police reform which also includes "state policing" must be signed quickly by the president to avoid such avoidable deaths!

Let me give you an instance,when the governor of Enugu reported to the then commission of police about the Fulani herdsmen killing his people,the commissioner said he was waiting for directives from the IGP in abuja before he will act!

Same is applicable to zamfara state where the governor confessed that he was not in charge of security on his state and pleaded with the federal government to send security personnel to zamfara due to the rise in armed robbery and kidnapping in the state!

No Governor is in charge of the security of his own state!

If you live in Rivers State, Port Harcourt Metropolis to be precise, you won't be saying this. With the shootings and high level of intra and inter cult fights happening in Choba, Alakahia and Aluu communities, anyone could be hit by a stray bullet. RIP to the dead.

wike receives monthly security vote allocation and he is the chief security officer of the state , so he will still be blamed

He should cry out to federal for assistance but it seems he is indifferent about the killing and kidnapping. If he is really concerned enough, he won't wait for public outcry before he takes the necessary step.

For your information , Wike is the CSO of the state. Whatever happens in the state falls on his table, good or bad. He shouldn't only come out to claim glory only when something good happen!

The current insecurity in the state is a seed planted by Wike, and he is enjoying it to the fullest, have u ever heard of security vote? Do u know how much is voted into??.

When Amaechi was a governor, Rivers state was one of the most peaceful state in the region.

I understand your concerns too, however due to politics and party affiliations our security has been manipulated to favour those who are in charge at abuja!

This is no secret as we are all aware that you can't castigate the president and still ask him to bring to direct the IGP to act on the insecurities in the state!

The problem ab initio has been our skewed and lopsided constitution that has subjected our security personnel to only be answerable to the centre!

To be honest with you,I don't like what's happening at rivers state,however the truth still remains that the least the governor can do is to plead with the commissioner of police in the state which won't be enough because the police commissioner only takes directives or orders from abuja which to me is a lopsided approach to curbing insecurity in our society!

I sincerely believe the police reforms which includes state policing will correct this anomaly!

b u are very stupid for asking this type of question, I stay work and leave in river state the killing that is going on in the state ,the state governor knows the solution but they will not do it for example he collects security votes from federal, what does he use it for?u and I knows that if u ban cutism in the state declared it illegal associations, start by sentence and sending people 2 jail, even if is for two months believe me it will serve as detrint to others that may like to join. I thought you had better thing to say now you even sound more clueless than I imagined, first and foremost security votes is not limited to Rivers state alone, even states like Borno, kaduna Zamfara, Benue, Lagos etc with substantial votes still experience unprecedented crime rate, secondly and more importantly Wike administration sent an executive bill to the legislature spelling out death sentence to convicted cultists and kidnappers which is already passed and signed into law...I know in your conspicuous ignorance this information is alien to you because you rather flow with those that will rather put Rivers state and the government in bad light.

Lastly and most importantly the government of Rivers state came up with audacious and more proactive measure to tackle head on the challenges of insecurity in the state by setting up the Rivers state neighbourhood watch which most states already have, to provide credible Intel to the conventional security agencies to tackle criminality head on and forestall premeditated crimes...the federal government response ofcourse was to send in her military armada with active connvance with some disgruntled persons within the state to thwart that effort with the baseless excuse that the state was recruiting militias even though the state security council comprising of the the state officials, police, Dss, army and other para troopers are all involved in the setting up of the neighbourhood watch.

Perhaps next time you should reserve your comments until you're well acquainted with the issues you want to dabble into.

The so called CSO tag is just a title!
Its got no bearing on the state government!
It also does not make the governor in charge of the security personnel in that state!
This is public knowledge!
The very reason why there was peace during the time of amaechi was simply a coexistence of all political gladiators in the state based on their uniform political affiliations!
However,we all know such coexistence can never stand the test of time!

Secondly,Amaechi as governor then was still in the same party as that of the president which made it easier for him to have access to the police commissioner and also the IGP!
So peace being achieved in rivers state then was as a result of his party affiliations at the centre! This is a known fact!

Am not absolving wike from any blame,however we must leave out politics when it comes to the security of lives and properties! Wike has not such powers to give any commissioner of police any directive!
He can only plead with the federal government!

The only way we can end the spat of violence,killings and other vices is to give some level of autonomy to the police!
This will ensure that the police implement the state policing as soon as possible to ensure that insecurity is brought to its barest minimum!

Wike used Rivers money to be the only candidate in a major election. Dumo Lulu Briggs, a Buhari loyalist and most popular candidate of Accord Party was substituted with very unknown, unpopular & unacceptable candidate to block Amaechi the chance of using Dumo & Accord party using Kangaroo Court judgement.
