Jesus solution for the poor was not tithes but the gospel.

The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.


Surely if tithes could solve poverty,wouldn't Jesus have recommended it?

If tithes could solve problems then Jesus died in vain.

Tithes is the old testament,based on works.

New Testament is based on Grace sealed in the blood of Jesus.

The New Testament is better than the old Testament.

Hebrews 12:24
And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Jesus did not come to abrogate or destroy the law (the old testament) but to perfect it. In apostle Paul's words he would refer to the law as our schoolmaster, bringing us to Christ.
While I agree that tithing does not guarantee salvation, because there are a lot of unsaved tithers.
However my simple question to you is. Did Jesus abrogate tithing?

Yes. There is no need for tithe in this dispensation.
First, Levites are no more.
Second, Hebrew 7 : 5 stated clearly that the sons of Levi were commanded to receive tithe under the Law.
Hebrew 7:12 stated that the priesthood having been changed, is now made of necessity a change also of the law.
It is very clear. Jesus never taught about tithe.
In fact, the only time Jesus mentioned tithe was when he rebuked the Pharisee for tithing mints, anids and all
Jesus said they should tithe and should not leave undone the more important matters of love and justice

Well, I've come to realize that a majority of folks who debate and campaign against tithing are atheist, agnostics, and people who are only trying to castigate the Way.
Tithing did not start with the Levites, if you did a good study of the Hebrews, you should know that. And hence the argument that since the Levitical order is not adopted in the new dispensation, so should tithing, is entirely wrong.
