Under the ‘’Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc) (Amendment) Act, 2008’’, the CJN’s annual basic salary is N3,353,972.50 (or N279,497.71 monthly), while other Justices of the Supreme Court and the President of the Court of Appeal receive N2,477,110 as basic annual salary or N206,425.83 monthly. And Walter whatever forgot Billions of naira in some of his accounts with numerous houses, before he was saved from disgrace and allowed to resign. And you see some youths fighting and supporting such person with hungry stomach. Una go dey alright las las..... @Topic, The Government should do something about this remuneration ASAP. This will STOP corruption in our judicial system... The worst type of CORRUPTION is the one taking place at the judiciary. |

the so called judges are the ones that have allowed this nation to decay by often ruling in favor of the highest bidders in matters of national importance e.g elections. If not, why would a judge rule Buhari as eligible to contest in the face of unverifiable educational credential?? Even Before buhari, these same judges allowed impunity to reign supreme. The same judges have consistently ruled incredibly corrupt politicians to be innocent of all wrong doing The same judges have consistently stood in the way of the people of Nigeria. They have not earned any sympathy or support from me and I pray every corrupt judge out there that have subverted the course of justice Rots in poverty!!!! |

That was when $1 was 140 to 160 naira and minimum wage was 18k. Meaning they have gone through 2 cycles of naira devaluation without getting a salary increase...and you don't want them to sell their judgement to the highest bidders |

That is their basic salary. When you add up all the allowances, what is their take home pay per month? cos I heard that it is well above N1.5 million naira. Perhaps the lawyers here can help us out. |

Honestly, this is damn too meager compared to what their counterparts in the legislative most who are not well educated receive annually. The difference is huge! |

peacettw:Telling us only the basic salary is quite misleading. No federal judge earns less than 1.5 million naira per month which does not include their annual vacation allowance which runs into millions . I also know that the judges are given 2 brand new cars every 3 years at most!!! |

It's misleading to denominate Nigerian judges' salaries in dollars. The best way to do a good comparison is to state their remuneration against the salaries of non-judges in the judiciary. A supreme court judge earns 750k monthly salary but a lawyer who is a registrar in the same supreme court for donkey's years earns about 100k! Let's not forget that only judges are entitled to their full pay on retirement until death, in addition to juicy gratuity and other severance packages like a mansion in Abuja, in the case of cjn. Apart from this, the judges have found a way of cornering the judiciary budget through collection of dubious estacodes and allowances (eg, so-called stationery allowance, which is pocketed by each high court judge without buying any item of stationery!) Most of these judges are original oles and barawos. As far back as 1990s, the disgraced cjn, Onnoghen, then a high court judge, was indicted for corruption by Eso Panel - I believe this is why Pmb refused to approve his appointment as substantive cjn. The irony of it is that NBA and others dont fight for enhanced pay for non-judges in the judiciary and turn a blind eye to the corruption on the part of judges or even collude in it. Whither naija! |

Judges are criminal, I have a neighborhood judge who withing six month of his appointment as a judge becomes a multi billionaire, his children started leaving large, his federal government job connect was second to none, we all felt being a federal judge means wealth........ |

Judiciary and other civil servants are not well paid. This is the reason why corruption is an institution. Indeed, it is only politicians who are well and promptly paid. Imagine, THERE IS NO CIVIL SERVANT WILL RECEIVE FOR 35 YEARS SERVICE WHAT STATE AND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY MEMBERS WILL RECEIVE JUST WITHIN 4YRS. |

The didn't complain for years because they're getting illegal money from politicians, meanwhile Op should include their allowances. |

When it comes to the former Chief Justice, it seems we are missing the point. What people are saying is that the Chief Justice was not constitutionally removed from office. By all means probe or prosecute him if he is found to be corrupt. |
