r + x = r√3........2

Combine 1 and 2

r = 2.5/(1+√3)
r = 0.915unit

Your mistake is in the tangent you Drew, that line that join the center and that radius is not a tangent,
Thus 90° does not exist their.

don't mind the drawing, its a targent to the circle at the middle that meets another tangent

What is five units? The side or the area?

unit means side, if it were area it will unit square
