The acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Tanko Muhammad, has got yet another looming scandal as he has been dragged to court over an alleged age falsification. The acting CJN was dragged to court over an alleged age falsification by 46-year-old businessman, Mr Tochi Michael. He claimed that the CJN falsified his date of birth from December 31, 1950 as contained in all his official records, including that of WAEC, to December 31, 1953 upon his appointment as a judicial officer. He also asked for a prosecution of the CJN on offence of perjury and an any other order which the court may deem fit.

However counsel for the CJN, Mr Sam Ologunorisa (SAN), who informed the court that the plaintiff and his counsel were not available, added that it seemed the plaintiff and his counsel were “running away” from the suit they filed, stressing that the court should do the needful in the interest of justice.

Punch reported that he said;

“We filed a notice of preliminary objection, a counter-affidavit and a written address. We urge the court to deem it fit that the originating summons has been argued. We have to look at Exhibit III of the originating summons. We urge the court to dismiss the suit. The case is meant to scandalise the CJN,”

Justice Danlami Senchi who adjourned the case till Friday, said the plaintiff will be given yet another opportunity to prove the allegation.

I think the game has been perfected. They didn't intend to go through with the court case in the first place, apparently because there was no case in the first instance cos of false allegation.

But hey, the rumours have been kick-started. There is nothing the CJN will do now, the first comment from some NL and "facebookers" will be: A CJN that falsified his age and as for the presidency, you get to hear things like: PMB removed Onnoghen by accusing him of false declaration, yet he kept this new CJN who is also alleged to have falsely declared his age. If you notice, some comments before mine have begun to take that dimension.

As convinced as I almost was about that Jibril al'sudani thing, feeling bad that such a crazy arrangement took place under our very noses, it is now certain that it was all a ruse by troublemakers. I'd rather they make constructive criticisms rather than raise false alarms.

Well, if the plaintiff isn't in court, it doesn't mean he has abandoned the case. A frivolous suit of that magnitude cannot go unpunished. If on the other hand, there is evidence to back the suit, the CJN is following Onnoghen sooner or later. There should be proper vetting of all appointees to lofty judicial positions such as the CJN.

He's going to get away with this, if its true, as long as Buhari remains the President. Trust me, that's what's going to happen.
