This is the most rugged low budget inverter ever. Self consumption is however high due to the type of transformer used.

Monitoring my 1.8kW array @ 24V live, it's been a rather poor solar day (pic. 1) along the Lekki axis, Lagos. In fact, it started raining rather heavily for about 30 min already.

The situation was a tad better just yesterday... by this time, my AGM batteries were beginning to enter the float stage. (Pics. 2, 3.)

I sincerely hope the situation improves pretty soon.

Update on Valence batteries

Have two permanent installations working very well currently.
Finally settled on 14.0v bulk charge and 13.8v float. Low voltage disconnect 11.5v

(Manufacturer wants 14.6 bulk but not charging lifepo4 to 100℅ extends battery life)
The built-in bms disconnects any battery to gets to 10.5v
The batteries charge very fast - 12v each one can accept up to 25A so you can adjust depending on the strings and voltage. Maximum 4 batteries in series recommended ie 48v. We have the 48v with 12 batteries -3 strings.

Something else we worked on was conversion sizing from lead acid to lithium. Recommendations varies from 40 -50℅. For our installation so far we used 8 Valence Lithium in place of 6 200ah lead acid batteries and 12 Valence batteries in place of 12 200ah.
So far so good.

We have a limited number available for sale currently. Contact me if you are interested in the batteries.

Constant cloudy days and rain are the bane of solar energy users during the rains. But the good news is when the rain is over and the sun gets to blaze, the yield you'd get will far outstrip that which you'd harvest during the dusty dry season.

Wednesday was brutal. Rained from dusk till dawn. And till midday. And till 3pm. And ... wait, is that sunshine breaking through the clouds. Are my eyes playing tricks on me or could I be seeing 2.25kW sustained power from a 3kWp array at 3pm (location Ilorin)?

Ended up with 4.6kWh (CC squeezing juice till 6pm). Not bad for a "sunless" day.

You are right. I am beginning to see sense in this. I just don't know how to re plan this. I would have gone with the other packages of that man with direct solar cos he has ready made packages. Like packages for 9 fans, 15 fans etc. Unfortunately, most of our electrical wares runs concurrently. We can have a full ward most times meaning up to 15 fans May even be on at the same time. The two TVs are 42 inches thereabout and usually on concurrently. The computer is almost permanently on. I think that was why separate packages would have been the best for me but I didn't know how to calculate those loads.

YOUR DIRECT SOLAR INSTALLER MAN ISN'T DOING ANYTHING MAGICAL. HE JUST USES AN EFFICIENT SYSTEM. I DONT KNOW WHO INSTALLED YOUR INVERTER SYSTEM, BUT IF YOU HAVE USED SOME OF THE WELL ROUNDED INSTALLERS HERE WHO AREN'T JUST INTERESTED IN MAKING QUICK BUCKS, BUT ACTUALLY HELPING YOU ENJOY YOUR SETUP, YOU WOULD HAVE GOTTEN BETTER VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY AND REST OF MIND_ WHICH IS THE AIM BTW.

A GOOD INSTALLER WILL SIZE YOUR SYSTEM PROPERLY, ADVICE YOU ON ENERGY EFFICIENT ALTERNATIVES TO YOUR HOUSE UTILITIES (FANS,LIGHTS,HEATERS ETC), AND EVEN CHECK UP ON YOU TO KNOW HOW YOUR SYSTEM IS WORKING.

SUGGESTED RESCUE OF YOUR INVERTER SYSTEM RIGHT NOW
-REPLACE ALL THOSE CEILING FANS WITH ENERGY EFFICIENT ONES,
-USE A LOW POWER LAPTOP RATHER THAN A DESKTOP FOR YOUR PC NEEDS,
- MAKE SURE YOUR TV HAS ENERGY EFFICIENT SETTINGS AND ACTIVATE THEM AFTER SUNDOWN. EVEN YOUR INVERTER SHOULD BE CHOSEN CAUTIOUSLY AS EFFICIENCY OF INVERTERS DIFFER GREATLY.

A GOOD INSTALLER WOULD HAVE SAVED YOU A LOT OF THIS STRESS.

LASTLY, DON'T ATTEMPT TO ADD MORE BATTERIES TO YOUR BATTERIES...WASTE OF MONEY AND ENERGY; YOU CAN ADD MORE PV MODULES THOUGH.

The problem is the run time or storage capacity and not power generated. The system shut down at 4:00 am. His total storage capacity is 4nos 200AH batteries which is a total of about 9600wh mind you the system shuts down at about 80% DOD and there is some energy wastage by the batteries themselves and the inverter.

Two different batteries with diff ages, charge and discharge history don't form a good party. One will drag the other down prematurely.

SLA batteries dont care what you are trying to achieve. They have their very delicate behavior that you dont want to mess with.

You are right. But adding more panels would not help either. So the only other option is to reduce load.

This is why I am a fan of lithium batteries, lead batteries are too cumbersome and inefficient, it's only advantage is its lower cost and relative safety.
