It is now official! The end of Mass Communication degree programme in Nigerian universities has been okayed by the National Universities Commission. Seven new degrees have emerged from Mass Communication which is gradually being phased out from Universities in Nigeria.

The NUC has approved the Curriculum for the unbundling of the Mass Communication Programme in Nigerian universities. This has resulted in the emergence of seven Degree-awarding Programmes and the phasing out of the single BSc/BA Degree Programme in Mass Communication currently offered in different Faculties in different universities.

The seven new Programmes/Departments, to be domiciled in a Faculty / School / College of Communication and Media Studies are: Journalism & Media Studies, Public Relations, Advertising, Broadcasting, Film & Multi-Media Studies, Development Communication Studies, Information &
Media Studies.

very good news, International Universities now streamline their bogus couases to focus on a pratical sector of the economy.

Mass comm student should go for the seven newer option and specialisation, and i hope NUC adds New media under Journalism.

Computer Science is also too broad and needs to be streamlined for efficiency: we should have Network, Programing, Hardware Engineering, Mobile application, Enterprise Programing and Accounting Programing

Stupid NUC they are some set of confused people .That is how they barn Russia course in UNN some years ago , many people that were supposed to graduate with the certificate were not able to again these are final year students oooo.
Only for them to approve it again forcing some people to have extra years in school because some people already dropped only for them to approve it again so they have to retake some of the courses they already dropped. Confused Country .

Meaning graduates of mass communication, so go back for refresher courses, in order to remain relevant. Interesting country.
