Don't like state police for 2 reasons

1.Funding...who is going to fund the state police?? (Don't tell me it is the Federal Government).

At the end of the day, TAXES are going to go up to fund the state police.

2.Tribalism. Especially in states with multiple tribes, and states that have settlers from outiside. (And don't tell me it won't happen).

good point!!!!

I daresay by the creation of state police, Nigeria has taken the first step in the journey to Resource Control by states.

Welcome on board then!
Local govt. and State policing is the bedrock of any great economy considering that fifth columnists can always be used to destabilize a nation with the capability to become an economic power house.

Truth is that , any leader that creates room for gradual restructuring of Nigeria will always earn my respect irrespective of his political affiliation and pattern of leadership.

Are states govt not funding the police already in their respective states?

And as for tribalism, that will be the problem of the states and not a national problem. Truth be told, boko haram in the north east and banditry in the north west are local problems and not national problems so let the states deal with it. Reason folks must elect brainy guys as governors and not dumb skulls

1. Naturally the institution creating them. Who cares if taxes go up? It should be expected if you want government services you'll have to pay more taxes. The government doesn't do magic.

2. The federal police didnt disappear and people will be allowed to sue. If its local government police its less likely dominated by one tribe. You'll get a mix of people in department. What you have to worry about is police being another gang in blue or black.

Next should be decentralization in the power sector so states can generate enough power capacity for their needs, with this we are game!

Then the true enemies of this country will now begin to expose themselves!

lol, i doubt if power can be decentralized to states, the necessary thing has been done already. Decentralizing d sector into gencos, tcn and discos is enough.

My opinion.

are you aware that if any state generates more than 5 mega watts, they must upload it directly to the national grid? Where is this done in any federating country in the world.

The Power issue is far from being solved dear, It's just a matter of time, PMB go reach there very soon.

Dont elect idiots in state assembly. Theyre their to check governor. If laws are made right the police wont be mere lapdogs to executive.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday approved the establishment of state and local government police.

He also approved the dismissal of 37 police officers as recommended by the National Human Rights Commission Presidential Special Panel on SARS Reforms.

This was contained in the statement by the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission and Chairman Presidential Panel on SARS Reform, Anthony Ojukwu, during the submission of report of the Presidential Panel on the reform of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), of the Nigeria Police, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.>>https://thenationonlineng.net/breaking-buhari-approves-state-lg-police/

This is great I'm glad Buhari has changed his mind on subject. Policing should naturally be devolved to lowest level. National assembly needs to vote on it asap. He also needs to decentralize prisons. Its the logical move.

Front Page: Lalasticlala
Buhari was never at any time against decentralization of the police. It was the PDP that created that impression through the false narrative that he was against it so as to clear the coast for Fulani Herdsmen expansionist match to the Atlantic Ocean yet the same PDP itself never approved state police. In fact Jonathan never missed an opportunity to clearly state his aversion for state police on the rather shallow and frivolous excuse that it would be abused by governors for political heist.

I dont believe that I read plenty of articles that state he was wary of the idea. It was Osinbajo that openly gave his support.

It however takes a listening president to bow to superior ideas from his VP. That is the difference between Buhari and all the other presidents we have had since 1999.

Can you please share the link to one of such articles here? I can bet that you won't find any. However I can show you a link to where Buhari threw his weight behind decentralization of the police far before now. The PDP created that default perception you hold about Buhari's take on this matter.

You lost your bet. He was wary of idea because of funding and governors. Osinbsjo was the one openly calling for this development.

NO, cos they can no longer pass the buck to Abuja. It will be evident to all that the Governors and states govt are the real fraud in Nigeria there by making folks to take state Govt elections more seriously

Thank God that for the first time since 1999 we have a VP full of and brimming over with ideas. But it takes the combination of such a VP and a president who acknowledges his VP's brilliance for progress to be made. We never had such a president before now.
