@seyewest and others, correct me if am wrong. JFK is a hub for those planning to emigrate illegally to Canada. I have read stories of those sent back from there cos they had no tickets to their proposed destination. So basically am saying if he is to enter through JFK he should have Detroit ticket on him to avoid story.

Actually in his best interest to have that on him from Nigeria....

Check online... I think you can get a cab to LGA.

Take the New Jersey Transit to New Jersey & then commute from New Jersey to New York City by Trains...

Hotels are generally expensive in New York City...

You’re better then off staying in Newark, Elizabeth OR Linden & then commute into New York City by Trains...

You can also order either Uber OR Lyft...

Just download both apps on your cellphone & you’re good to go...

Fortunately for you can get a ticket for Detroit in JFK if it's cheap but if not that means your domestic flight will leave from LGA. There's no subway or train that goes directly to LaGuardia. Instead, you need to follow one of these options. While JFK is only about 10 miles from LaGuardia Airport, it can cost up to $45 with a private car service or taxi between both airports. Fortunately, there is NYC Airporter, the only airport bus authorized by The Port Authority of NY & NJ. For only $17, you can board from all terminals at both. Travel time is about 1 hr, remember NYC traffic can be hectic, so please allow for extra travel time between flights.

He can also take a Greyhound Bus from New York City to Detroit Michigan...

It’s cheaper but albeit a longer journey...

He just needs to compare & contrast Price versus Time and then make an ultimate decision...

If travel is less than 6 hours by road I rather choose bus instead of flight.

New York City to Detroit, Michigan is definitely more than 6 hours by road...

It should be around 18 hours by Greyhound considering the stops along the way to pick up & drop off passengers plus also breaks in between the journey so people can eat as well as stretch their legs...

Depending on how late he's coming in, he can catch the 11pm Greyhound Bus to Detroit, that's some 16hrs+ journey though, costs maybe less than $70.

I guess paying $70 by Bus is better than paying $150+ by flight...

He just has to make a decision between Price & Comfort...

I am also considering greyhound, so I spent my evening on their schedules and price ranges yesterday.

My flight is scheduled to arrive at JFK by 7pm, and I am a first time traveler, so, I am planning on booking the greyhound bus 7:10am. It costs $59 + $20(extra checked baggage). I wanted to book a flight ($60- economy) but got to know that I will have to pay extra money for my two checked bags.

My questions are:

1. Is it safe booking a bus instead of flight, won't it be an issue?

2. Can I stay overnight at the airport after checkout without any issues?

3. How long does it take to checkout on arrival at the airport?

4. Any idea of how to transit from JFK to QueensVille? that's greyhound's closest bust station to JFK as mentioned by their call center agent.

Thanks in anticipation.

1. Depends on your budget if bus is cheaper for you why not? Greyhound buses and a host of other have very comfortable seats, leg room, charging port and Wi-Fi.

2. No biggy but to avoid story that touch its better to exit and stay at the bus station instead.

3.Depends on the queue, twice I have used JFK I don't spend up to 5mins at the counter. But the issue is getting to the counter, at times you could spend between 45mins to 1hour if the queue of incoming passengers are much.

4. Twice i had used greyhound buses from their port authority station close to times square. Average distance is between 45mins to 1hour depends on traffic from JFK to the bus station.

Like someone said is better to use uber or lyft, but mind you you can't pay cash as all trips are charged to your card.

I hope you found this useful.

Thanks a lot. I may have to download Uber or Lyft when time comes so I can make use of the app as soon as I exit.

I will have to exit as soon as I get cleared and zoom off to the closest greyhound bus station, so I won't have to tell stories that touch, that is the only one I know for now.

I only pray I get there before the middle of night, if not, Psalm 23 as I stay till day break at the airport.

Thanks once again.

Please, the part that you said all trips are charged to my cards, how can I handle that as a first timer?

Yeah. But 16hrs+ is a lot oh! I believe it will help too if we understand that Greyhound Buses ain't anything that looks like "molue", absolutely comfortable. For a long journey though, the stops (and sometimes bus changes) are there, I like it, but I have seen someone complain about it.

Awesome take.

"Jejelly" checking into an hotel works best. But seems cut costing is important here....

SLEEPING WELL IN THE PLANE FIRST AND BEINGFRESH ON ARRIVAL THEN COULD HELP TOO.

With the baggage in the mix, that's gonna be a hell of stress. This is the main reason I will normally suggest this person flies from JFK especially if the price difference isn't much, check your stuff in the very night you arrive and become light. Most airlines will be about $30 on first checked in baggage. Cheap still! Would have suggested Southwest, but I think they fly in and out from LGA, their baggage allowance is awesome.

TSA crew won't be available on all terminals of JFK, so you can only stay around the only 24hrs open one or you find your way to Downtown and flex jare!

Well, well. "Uberise" with your baggage to the Mega Bus Station and by all means check your stuff in if possible.... You are light thereafter and already around groove centre, oya go. Come back early enough to catch your bus. If groove no first dey your body, you go hear am oh!

Hopefully CBP "delays" and maybe Secondary Inspection won't have anything on you, else most of these options will come to nought.

She should Just fly to Chicago from Nigeria instead of JFK, the different is not up to N70K instead of going through stress.

What do you do for a living? because how can you stay away from your work for 6 weeks? this is one of the question you maybe asked at the POE and is this the first time you're traveling?

To avoid being sent to Secondary Inspection and all the stress accompanying, It is better for him to have above $1k, and that 6 weeks remain much....
