9th NASS: Management Bars Journalists From Covering Inauguration by CGMedia(op): 9:05am On Jun 07, 2019
Despite the withdrawal of the draconian guidelines for the accreditation of journalists, the National Assembly Management has again moved to bar over 150 accredited journalists from covering the inauguration of the 9th national assembly on Tuesday, June 11.

The decision which is coming barely three weeks after the management of the national assembly suspended the move to issue fresh guidelines to the journalists covering the parliament.

The new move was discovered on Thursday following the instruction by the management that only 10 reporters would be allowed to cover the inauguration as far as print media is concerned, just as few of television and radio reporters were selected for the event.

Out of over 15 photojournalists covering the two chambers, only one was accredited to cover the event, making the list of a very few names selected out of the 160 registered journalists who are members of the House and Senate Press Corps.

List of journalists shortlisted to cover 9th Assembly inauguration
Since 1999 accredited journalists covering the legislature have been allowed to occupy the press gallery to cover the proceedings while other reporters monitored the proceedings via live telecast from the screen mounted at the press centre.

But the provisions were not allowed with this restriction as those that were not included in the list will not be allowed to have access to the National Assembly.

The implication of the latest arrangement is that some media houses would be locked out of the complex until the entire proceedings are concluded on Tuesday.

The media should be allowed to cover it, given the fact that they are the 4th estate of the realm after the executive, judiciary and legislature.

As the social media is the fifth realm, right?

These effects are only very important when there is am EDUCATED citizenry with BASIC life needs assured.

That however isn't the case in Nigeria. The media is insecure. 90% of Nigerians are below poverty line. Media is all but 'bought' by the highest bidder(s) in Nigeria - in spite of the FOI Bill.

Daring media houses like NEXT have been run into extinction. Where is TELL & TheNews?

The Nigerian (largely youth) citizenry enjoys very mediocre things like sex discussions, objectification of the female gender, criminal activities like Internet fraud in the name of 'hustling' and all manners of trite activities.

Nigeria currently lacks the necessary CRITICAL MASS of young people with vision, education and direction who require experience to drive national goals.

Where such exist, they are either hamstrung, harried, ignored or driven into the periphery or abroad by the current unfavourable realities of the day.

So when we talk about Realms of the Estate, the value of that phrase is currently lost on Nigerians - especially with our almost non-existent Educational values.

PS: 90% of those who come by this may not read it to its end. No, Nigerians 'hate' EPISTLES.

So how do we improve when we don't read to engage ourselves and enlarge our horizons?

Remember Next Level no freedom of the press grin

Well let's talk about something else. I saw a guy channel his energy on telling NL mods how to control spammers in threads, and I wanted to put mouth no couldn't get space on the first page wink
Now let's be frank, if those people do not generate sales and conversions, would they still be coming?

Same you people click on the threads to see the 18+ contents, and fall for the bet9ja scams, and still rant about it.
Are you sure you are not falling jealous?
If mods aren't controlling the spam, which other jobs do they have aside pushing posts to front page and deleting spam posts?

Live and let live bro, as you dey chop make others dey chop, and allow mods to do their jobs.
Stop letting your busy body dictate the mods life, you didn't employ them, Seun did.
Ok bye

Freedom of information law is a Scam
There is heavy clamp down on the press
Fear any government that does not accept criticism. Jonathan was highly criticised but never clamped down on the Media.
May God upturn what ever evil agenda they have in mind.

Truth be told. Saraki is a champion in national politics.

He has succeeded more than Tinubu presently.

I don't just like the way it ended.

But I think it is beginning.

If Tinubu failed in its presidency. Saraki maybe back and better.

Why is APC trying desperately to gag the media, these people are our elected reps, they are not there to serve Buhari but Nigerians.
This Govt talks about transparency and integrity but seems to be doing the exact opposite
