Median age in Nigeria is 18 years. Probably the lowest in the world meaning our life expectancy is also one of the lowest. Japan is 50 years median age meaning they have aging population and high life expectancy.

It simply means Half of our Population(200,686,995) are below that Age(Median Age) while the Other Half are Above or older...What this means is that Children and Teenagers are on the rise.

Your conversion is wrong.Miles are always greater than kilometres. E.g if population of China is 151 per kmsq(58.3 square miles)

Median age does not imply life expectancy. It simply means half of the population are below the specified age.

Median age is not same as LE.

It just means it has a lot of young people. Perhaps high fertility rate, early parenthood, etc. Not necessarily only due to low life expectancy.

In the case of Japan, the high median is a combination of high life expectancy and low fertility. There are just relatively more older people in the population than most other countries.

9ja's very low median is cause for concern. It definitely points to much fewer elderly people and very high fertility rate. Meaning each adult has a relatively high burden of looking after many dependents. And by the way, many adults have low income, unemployed or under-employed.

Did you realize that Nigeria has the youngest median age on the list? Meaning Nigeria has a largely trainable and productive population... why you may ask? Youth! Nigeria has a strong youth demographic.

However Nigeria suffers a strong syndrome of unproductivity... high unemployment and braindrain.
