FFP relates to money from outside the club's books that create unfair competition, so called investment masquerrading as subsidies just like tje battles between Boeing and Airbus regarding subsidies on aircraft production. Essentially FIFA doesn't want rich club owners pumping cash into the clubs just to buy a sporting advantage, cash that may not be recoverable. FIFA wants clubs to be self financing and self sustainable. So cash spent by clubs must be from club assets and income and any loans or grants received must reflect on the audited clubs books in red and black.

This is necessary so that a club like Brighton or Southampton is competing against Manchester City and not the government of The United Arab Emirates or Olympic Marseille is not competing against the Qatari government but against Paris St Germaine or Valencia is competing against Real Madrid not a consortium of fund managers or as regularly asserted the Government of Spain and the Spanish Central Bank.

If Real spends 100 million, it must be investment or internal cash not slush money and at the end of the financial year must reflect in its accounts as a loan to be repayable from the earnimgs ofthe club. FIFA wants footballing contests settled on the pitch not in boardrooms, by players and coaches, not investment bankers and oil sheikhs.

Real Madrid has defaulted on FFP in the past but it is the richest club in the world presently. In the past three seasons it has not broken the bank so we assume its finances are healthier than they ever have been. With Bale going after CR7, its wage bill is much lighter as well. So it can afford a couple of boomers.
