Hello house. . Good day to you all. I appreciate the work you are doing from 2017.
This is my first time travelling
Am an F1 visa student whose school is in Missouri. I have few questions to ask pls

1. My school is in Missouri but I already booked a flight to JFK from Lagos. Hope it wnt cause an issue, flights to JFK(215k airmaroc) were cheaper than flights to STL in missouri( about 600k on delta). I also intend to stay in New York for a few days with a mentor before going to missouri.

2. Also I know have already booked the airmaroc flight but is their services okay or at least moderate?

3. What is the range of amt of money I can bring in as a student .. am thinking of holding around 1k to 1.5k

4. Please what's the cheapest way to get to Missouri from newyork? Bus, flight, or train?

5. Any suggestion of a nice place to visit while in new your for a few days. .. my birthday would be two days after arrival

6. Also what are the likely questions I could be asked at the POE and should I bring a bank statement along. ?

Thanks sirs/ma's

1) Flying to New York instead of St Louis won't be an issue at all, Flight from LGA Airport to St Lousi is around N45K to N50k ( I can get it for you), bus is 14 hrs which to me is not advisable.

2) To be honest, Royal Air Maroc is moderate but don't expect out of the world service and I hope your stop over is less than 6 hours?

3) As much as you can bring but $1.5K is just not enough unless your sponsor is based in U.S (Hope you mentor migrated to U.S legally if not please don't include him in any discussion at POE)

4) You will find all likely question on this forum and visit the student forum on nairaland as well, please go with your bank statement just in case.

5) You can visit the Brooklyn bridge, Manhattan, Times Square, Statute of Liberty and lots more.

Thanks Boss I will ask on the student forum. God bless you. I enjoyed the pics you posted of your emirate flight from dubai to US. It was cool.

Yes sir, thank you sir. I don't mind taking a flight from LGA to STL but that would be few days after I arrive JFK not the same day.

That is even better but they may ask you for evidence of your accommodation in New York.

@Seyewest, I really appreciate your input here, however, I will advise that @handoffire do not attempt staying back in New York, please go straight to Missouri on getting to US as the immigration officer might think it's not reasonable to come for studies and first thing is spending time with some mentors, you can do that in December during Christmas.

My opinion though.

What if school starts in August or September or in 5 weeks time?

He should probably mention at PoE the date he intends to be in school, which explains the NY staycation.

Things to do in NY in addition to Seyewest comments.

Van Gogh’s Starry Night painting is at the MOMA (The Museum of Modern Art). You can get in free from 4.30-8pm on Fridays.

Biking around Central Park (one of the most famous places in New York) and then over the Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan are other top things to do in NYC.

You can hire bikes there and some online sites.

you can only enter the states from 30 days to date of resumption on the i20, mind you, people still advise that you don't leave as early as the first few days in your 30 days counting. It's better you show enough evidence of genuine studentship and not giving the immigration officer a doubt of your genuineness.

I think the bolded is right...all you need to do is explain why you're in New York.

I don't think there will be problem but to be honest it's better to play safe just like you've suggested.

I flight is scheduled to arrive JFK 9 days into the 30 days that one can enter us. I intend spending a week in NYC then go to Missouri two weeks prior to the school resumption. So that is 9 + 7+ 14= 30days.

Is this okay pls?

I intend to also buy a ticket probably next week or two weeks time that would be taking me out of NYC to Missouri but the departure date would be a week after I arrived i.e let's say I arrive JFK July 29 the departure date from LGA to STL in Missouri would be 5th of August.

The ticket would be with me from Nigeria. Is this realistic please?

Yes it's realistic and possible, you have no reason to worry if this is your plan.

Good afternoon everyone.
I am scheduled to travel in few weeks.
I am going for a visit/holiday. My final destination is Detroit, but I would pass through JFK, and spend 2 nights in Newyoork before joining my connecting flight.
Please all, what's your take on THIS? , would I encounter any PROBLEMS? , What do I have to go WITH? , Do they ask for Statement of Account at the POE?.
I await your warm replies.. Thanks all

I don't think you need statement of Account, the most important thing is that you have your accommodation and connecting flight reservation and ticket at hand (Confirmation) before you leave Nigeria.
Safe Journey

The wealth of knowledge here is impressive. Please for some who stayed 5 months and 2 weeks on a 6 months entry approval (this happened last year between March/August 2018) what are the likely POE questions. God bless you all!

How old is the person and I believe they will want to know why the person spent that much time in the States and there's probability the person may end up in secondary screen but will be let in eventually if the person has a good reason for staying that long in the States.

There may be issues. He might have a lot of explaining to do on what he was doing for five months, although they gave him six months. The question is how long did he say he was gonna stay on his ds 160?Credibility is of paramount importance in the US visa process and once lost,it can hardly be regained.

Why not pay into their Nigeria bank account after calling them and verifying all the info and account number.

Please call Turkish Airline to confirm the ticket price and go ahead to pay, it's very important you do that.
