When this happened to VGC residents, instead of sympathy with the people, the first comment was EXPENSIVE SLUMP with a laughing picture and insulting Lagos.

Even if the flood kills all the people in Aba, I don't care or pity them

The igbos are to cheap and petty to my liking.

PDP has ruled a state for 20yrs yet no tangible development.

Rather than try other parties or candidates, they still voted same incompetent man.
.
Until the igbos begin to have sense, wall themselves round with the fear of God only then will the blessings of God come true in there lives

Abia state will remain the worst state in Nigeria

Please my brothers and sisters,is this not the situation of kettle calling pot black?Where in Nigeria is free from flood when it rains?Even your so called Lagos is the worst in terms of development considering the amount of revenue they claim to be generating everyday.Yet you people allowed one party to be ruling you for the past 20+ years.I WEEP FOR THE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY ESPECIALLY THE YOUTH.

See the Sorry State of Aba ,It’s Really Pathetic And our Igbo brothers and sisters in Lagos do not see any need for "O TO Gee" for PDP in Abia or any of the Eastern states that have been chained by the Poverty Development Party since 1999 (a whole 20 years of slavery)!

The problem with we igbos as a whole is that of money . we tend to worship money too much as if is our God.we igbos can sell our only blood brothers for money . that is why we tend to suffer in our own greediness and ignorant.as long as we keep on celebrating chicken change as money.then let's forget about development.but I tell you we igbos that the love of money is the root of all evil.

Given the potentials of Abia state, it's a Disgrace that passed 4 years of Ikpeazu Administration Nothing stands out as an Achievement in that state!

Let us complain about Tinubu and Lagos instead.

I pray God gives succour to those negatively affected.

We Yorubas care about all humans no matter their tribes.

We also dish out hometraining to those who refuse it, propagating unnecessary hatred hence my sarcastic opening statement.

Will Abia state ever be great again?
KingOdart:
- A heavy downpour on Wednesday night, June 12 in Aba, Abia state, left many homes, shops and markets submerged under water and also destroyed goods estimated at over N15m

- The unfortunate development also rendered scores of residents of the area homeless

- Okechukwu Egechi, a landlord in the area, claimed that he lost all his property to the flood, and also nearly lost his 13-year-old daughter to the flood

- Oriaku Chisom, a senior pastor at a church situated in the area, urged political leaders to urgently intervene in order to save residents from the disaster.

A heavy downpour on Wednesday night, June 12 in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia, has left many homes, shops and markets submerged by flood. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that goods estimated at over N15 million were also destroyed by the flood.

Legit.ng gathers that at Ahia Ohuru (New Market), over 25 shops on Lines 10, 16, 20, 43, 44 and 47 were all submerged.

Obinna Ogugua, a trader in the market, was said to have lost 32 bales of clothes, worth about N2.9 million.

More than six hours of rain also flooded the Ahuronye, Nwaogu and Mathew streets on Obuda/Eziukwu and Ohanku roads in the Ndiegoro area of the city, leaving many houses flooded.

The unfortunate development also rendered scores of residents of the area homeless.

A resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that he lost all his household items to the flood.

He said that it took the intervention of neighbours to save some children, especially those whose parents were away during the downpour, from being swept away by flood.

Okechukwu Egechi, a landlord in the area, said that Wednesday’s experience was not new to them. Egechi, however, said that the extent of flood and resultant damage of property was significantly higher than similar incidents in the recent past.

He said that he was away when the rain started, but regretted that it was difficult for him to access his house when he returned at end of the rain due to the heavy flood.

He said: “We have been complaining about the poor drainage in this area for many years, but nobody listened to us.

“It is so bad that we have people representing us at the state and federal levels but they do not know about the perennial flooding facing us.”

Egechi, who claimed that he lost all his property to the flood, also said that he nearly lost his 13-year-old daughter to the flood.

“As I was told, she was the last to leave the house and suddenly fell into the flood but was rescued by neighbours,” he said.

Oriaku Chisom, a senior pastor at the Garden of Life Ministries, situated at No 6 Ahuronye Street, said that flooding had become a perennial problem in the area. Chisom said:

“The situation is not new. It has become an annual incident and usually takes residents unawares.

“What is happening is simply a sheer sign of neglect by our political leaders. People will suffer and buy household equipment only to lose them to flood every year.”

He said that although he was sent parking from his residence in the area by flood some years ago, his church was still situated there.

He regretted that the federal government’s contract through the Ecological Fund Office for the reconstruction of the drains to properly address the flood menace was allegedly abandoned.

“We are calling on our leaders, from councilors, council chairmen, state and federal lawmakers and the governor to urgently intervene in order to save the residents from the disaster,” Chisom said.
