46 Nigerian graduating students at Howard University in the United States, broke records as they made the bulk of the 96 medical students that graduated from the prestigious American university.

Asides report of 46 Nigerian graduating students from Howard University, they also broke record by winning 16 out 26 awards of excellence given by the school. It was further learnt that this has never happened before, as Nigerians completely dominated the event. Congrats by the way

all of una talking rubbish dont know what it means stydying abroad. should education that is already stressful in its own ramification add additional stress that can be done away with? in Nigeria you can settle, you can cut corners with the system abroad you cant. if the total mark to pass an exam is 6, you are expected to get a minimum of 4 before you can pass. anything before is FAIL. i mean look at it, a little above 3 in this instance should be a pass right? 3, 3.1 and above but there its not. 4 which is above average. of which to them a 4 is a bad score.

you would be bombarded with assignments and presentations, there is no escaping it that you give it out to someone to do or you copy and paste. you would fail woefully. you are expected to know it. if you dont know it, you would be very terrible with yourself because you cannot escape interactive sessions in class where people may be paired in groups and ideas are thrown around. Abroad, you cannot separate school and normal life. school, learning and studying is normal life till the end of the semester because assignments, papers, group work, presentations keeps you always studying or feeling guilty for not studying or beimg nervous and scared all the time . In Nigeria, the only time people are in full school mode is during exams or tests. infact you can afford to miss lectures and be out of school mode till whenevrr you feel like.

Abroad, your lecturer knows you all in class, knows the weak amd strong ones, the omes to always throw questions at to put them on their toes all the time. You are in class the whole day. basically. sometimes from 8am to 4 or 5pm with 15 mims break at every hour then a major break by mid day.so you see my friend, the suffering yall are suffering in your "nigerian university" is not education related, rather its just punishment or should i say "an appendage" of the general suffering attached with being and living in nigeria mixed with your education. Dont think they have it easy there. its equally as tough, if not tougher.

That's some great news. It goes a long way to ascertain the claim that Nigerians are naturally smart and would perform better academically if our institutions are of international standard

This is Naija education reality.

I got your point from your first post.

Don't mind the people that are bashing you probably most of them are schooling in abroad.

prodigyhenry:

my comment was for those who have sense sadly you don't fall into that category. I am not talking about the standard of education we are talking about the standard of living of an average Nigerian public university student, have those guy ever had a 6am to 6pm lecture, have they ever struggled to get shuttle, have they ever trekked for kms to go to class?, have they ever been failed by a lecturer because he doesn't like their name or because they didn't buy a handout, have they ever gone go exam hall without eating for days, have they had to cram formulas and chemicals they have never seen?, have they had to understand something even their lecturers don't understand?.. those guys are smart no doubt but any Nigerian public university student that can get second class upper would do far better than this guys if he gets the chance

You can't say it better. I finished from OAU, and I can tell you that the situation there is the definition of why Nigeria refuse to move forward. Those lecturers are hell bent on status quo, so unyielding to change and do things in a better way.

So according to you, OAU is better than the best black dominated university in the US? Why do you believe that the "lesser the number of first class graduates, the better the department/faculty/university? Is OAU better than Imperial College London that had 44% of her graduates as first class in 2016?

Thanks for this. Suffer head humans believing because conditions to learn should be abysmal and therefore be a harbinger for attaining the top. The reasoning in that post is too archaic and nonsensical yet he claims to have studied in the US. Apparently, the suffer head mentality is ingrained and didn't leave him.

Winning a Nobel Prize in the science category takes time, dedication, enormous financial resources, high intellect, extensive collaboration amongst other researchers, passion for research and development etc.

In summary, for an individual with a Nigerian heritage (who will most likely be based in a developed country) to win a Nobel in the science category, it will take about 5-10 years from now. That stuff takes time to win.

The stories of Nigerians breaking all sort of academic records in various universities around the world has been on for a long time, but after all this while what has been the end results?, I'm sure if a research is to be carry out to find the break throughs achieve by their mates, the results will be astounding!, personally I just believe that we blacks generally are only good at cramming n assimilations just to pass exams in flying colors but poor in critical n original thought process in relation to our acquired knowledge,or perhaps there is mystical powers beyond ordinary education to the mind blowing breakthroughs been achieve by the whites.

Now let's look at it this way. Imagine that number of American students graduating from a British university, what would that tell you about the educational system in America? It would mean that their education is so shit that they had to have that number graduating in single department in Britain.

My point is we have to fix the educational system in Nigeria

I have read your comments several times but still not understanding the message

let them school in OAU before I agree that they are brilliant

So one must school in OAU before he's acclaimed brilliant.....

That mindset alone is devoid of common Sense and it shouldn't have been made by someone claiming to come from a first class school in Nigeria.

Why aren't graduates from the so-called school challenging the very fabric of modern education?
How many graduates end up being inventors, producers and not administrators?
How many can we claim have world-wide recognition?
What is the direct impact of OAU graduates on the Nigerian economy?
How have they influenced the west African sub region and Africa at large?

Now coming to the field of medicine

Yes OAU graduates are brilliant

Heck......

Nigerians are a brilliant bunch but our educational structure has spoiled things for us.

I knew someone back in the days in FUTA, he was brilliant but a victim of hate from some lecturers. He was frustrated out of the system and in few years, this guy was in Italy where he graduated first class, gained scholarship till Phd level and he's doing fine home and abroad right now.

Poll: How many billionaires are really products of the Nigerian educational system? The answer is alarming.

But take China as a case study, there are over a million millionaires and so many billionaires.

So please just appreciate the feat of these wonderful young men and women....
Decry the rot in our system and move on already

Not true sir. No need for your research, i live in the US, my wife studied medicine in OAU , had her medical residency in this same Howard with many other nigerians. Scored 99% in all her board exams, now works with mainly white and indian doctors. Every time they get a chance to meet me all they talk about is how good my wife is in her job. Besides this, i personally know scores of nigerian especially in the Maryland/ DC metro that are outstanding in their job roles be it IT or medical fields........Nigerians are truely gifted, just give them the right environment. cool

yes but that missing class matter happens everywhere forget I can swear on my life that my brother when he went to Texas Tech said there are some students that only came for orientation and then never came back only when there is test or exam they will appear and they do well also yes what they don't know is that abroad too it's hard in acclaimed schools or even registered colleges u have to be smart and understand as they will always be bringing new methods of learning and teaching especially in the it and engineering sectors but the main difference between here and abroad is that u will enjoy the learning u see new things to experiment with you are allowed to actually practicalize what u learn the environment is clean sane and up to date I remember when I went school hunting with my parents I was never the interested in school type until I saw what went on there was like something out of a movie with the inventions that's when I knew I had to go there
