I really don't understand why many are blaming Mikel. You all should blame the coach for playing him out of position. He plays 10, not 8. He should have played behind Etebo, and not the other way round. However, the coach still deserves some accolade for the substitution which pushed Iwobi back to midfield.

Mw, by default, mikel wears jersey no 10 for Nigeria but. Not a natural attacking midfielder, he is a better defensive midfielder.., by the virtue of that role (4), he is expected to perform brilliantly in right midfield #8

Pls guys stop blaming Mike Coz I don't see any crime he has committed, rather put the blame on the coach whose formation almost cost us the game.... playing players out of their normal position is very dangerous, if u must play 352 formation then every players must be in their rightful place, but I would have preferred he go for 433, with musa and igaloh in the starting line and then u will see what Mikel is capable of doing.... and Las Las he should Pls change that keeper that likes playing with ball like he's playing for Barcelona

All of you also forgot that our striker onuachu no sabi position himself ...e always gets to the ball late and he is sluggish + the fact that Mikel is sluggish too so our attack no sharp until second half

Mikel was a great player but now he only knows how to guide ball and struggle with opponents till he falls ...then free kick.

Well, I understand age is no longer by his side. How old was Iwobi when Mikel played as one of the best in Holland 2005? About 6 or 7 yrs old. Not very sure though.

My candid advice to Mikel is: Retire honorably now and allow Iwobi and his age mates to take over.

Nigerians,we are really difficult peaple.just one match and every one is blaming mikel aready.we really need to undastand that football is really changing and their is no small teams any more.
We also forgot the fact that this boys have been down with sickness as the coach rightly said.if that be the case then mikel will be more effected considering his age,but no one is looking at that aspect.
Some of us just watch only super eagles match.I watched the pharos match and mikel did better than m.salah,a guy who just won champions league and is in top form yet no one is bad mouth in him.we also forget that peaple have bad days in some match.let's be patient with this guy.he has been humbly despite his money and fame.

Am not surprised that mikel is saying this,his inclusion in afcon is a disaster to this young players,it do more harm and damages than good, the worst captain in the history of super eagle,for a foreign commentor to say, "mikel is not leading his team mates,a captain that played badly". The coach should always introduce him when the game has already been won,mikel never improve his game since 2005,a year before kanu retired,he's still playing beautiful football,the same as okocha and other previous captain, but this one is worst as a captain,his boring game has weaken his team mates and got them tired quickly, his presence on field reduces those guys performances ,only for his assistant(musa) to comes in and motivate the boys.

Mikel was below par yesterday but that does not make him a bad player. not many Nigerian players ( present,past and future) will ever get close to his achievement in football . he has put in many brilliant performance for the super eagles
