Exactly my thoughts....I even sent the link to the person that paid, but he wasn't convinced and this hurts a lot. For every excuse he gets from them, he keeps trying to tell people that the excuses are reasonable. Now, I am thinking of involving the police just like you advised, probably they could carry out an undercover investigation or monitor them but I guess this will cost me a lot. I really cant sit down and do nothing, and like you said the 8 days he gave me, is most likely to buy time. Thank you so much, I will see if I can get the police involve....just so worried cry

Request for your key immediately. If they can't give you your key, let them refund your money IMMEDIATELY.

Every key has more than 1 copy. They can give 3 copies and hold 1 for those working on the property. If they can't give you the key and can't refund your money, pls update us and mention me on the thread.

I know what those agents are doing. Collect your key or money immediately.

Hello guys.... I'm devastated right now, I can't even think.... I just want to wake up from this dream. This would have been different if I didn't see it coming, God really tried to help us, it was very obvious! On my way to work yesterday, my mind wasn't at rest again, my spirit told me to go to that house to go check what is going on, I did and one of the men saw me there and came outside before I entered, he knew I know they are fraudsters but I have no evidence so he is always mean towards me, especially after I took pics of the agent. He said we should come today or Monday for the key, on getting there today, just as I suspected, many people were already in the apartment crying and most were shocked because many people paid up-to half a million for same apartment. The lucky ones are those who moved in first. Now I'm just sitting down confused, frustrated, I have no idea what to do....i tried but I wasn't listened to, somehow I might even be blamed as African mentality.

Jeeeez!!

Those who moved in first used the same fraudulent agent? You guys need to cooperate at this point. Did you or anyone else involved the police at any point? I don't think it would be very difficult to track them as far as there's a proof of payment.

Do you have a proof of payment or you paid in cash?

With an account number, BVN, photo, phone numbers and names of those criminals, there are way too many avenues to track them. Do you have anyone around to help?

I have involved the police, but yet to write a statement. I already informed this police man before today all because I never trusted those people. I have sent his pics to him... I'll upload it here as well with his phone numbers. Those who moved in have no idea about his whereabouts too, they are as shocked as we are.

Took My time going through the Entire thread and to be Honest, just the first Line on the First page already told Me all I needed to Know.

That's because am not just Smart BUT do have a Criminal inStinct (just that I don't use it for evil.)

Well the deed already has been done.

As for not being Listened to, let me make a Guess - You're a Lady and the Person who made the Payment is a Man. probably relationship between you both is Marriage (or you're still dating).
If am Right, then it's African Mentality of not listening to WoMen especially since most Males see them as not just at the Lower-Chain BUT to be troublesome so much they easily can take concerns where there's nothing to worry about.

From the start, you Guys already made a mistake (Making Payment and listening to such Silly ExCuse)

BUT to Solve this problem is very simple BUT going the Route you all are doing now means they Might never be caught.

There are Several Ways of apprehending a Criminal but for Security safe (don't want to expose lots of tactics), would list the Easiest Least Way :

When you commit a crime and things goes Side-ways, you already know you're being hunted hence the Criminal(s) would lie low while also avoiding lot's of means to get caught

1. How sure are You few the Criminal(s) aren't a member on Nairaland. Major reason I can't expose much here.
2. You have His/Her Picx and they made it a lot of Big deal to ensure you no longer have it. That should have given you enough reason to Act Immediately. Thank God you're Alive sha.
3. You have account numbers and possibly BVN and few other details if provided by the bank. Hopefully the bank account isn't a Business Account else no much Luck.
4. AnyOne planning a Crime (especially of such Magnitude) would Lay a Good Foundation and those involves using UnTraceAble details and leaving little or no Paper Trails.
5. They know they're being Chased hence are on the Run Working against most of the Actions The VICTIM is using. They might evn be Smarter than the VICTIM sef.
6. According to the Law, you're to report to Nearest Police in same Jurisdiction where the Event occurred BUT then, that isn't always GOOD as the system is highly Corrupt hence there might be insiders who could get things ComPromised.
7. The Criminal(s) might be able to Predict your next Moves BUT that depends on how Smart they ARE in relative to How Smart/Dumb you are.

I could go On and On BUT to Catch a Criminal, you need to be UnPreDictAble .

My Simple and Honest Suggestion is to do the following.

Make a Report at the Police Station (just so it's on reCord). After that, ForGet about the Entire InCident (BUT continue doing Silent Findings Behind the Scene) BUT that's just for a while to allow the Criminal(s) enough time THINK they have gotten away and Relax and come Out of hiding.

After then, You should have enough InTel to be atleast 93% sure you've got them, then work towards catching the entire team OR atleast one of them.

The Police can work BUT shouldn't always be Trusted.

If you must work with the Police, ensure it's a Police not in same Jurisdiction (in-fact to be on safe side, let it be One far away with as Little team as Possible. The Small the Search team, the Better) and should work UnDerCover so even the Police wouldn't know what's happening. Now these would cost MONEY bBUT if you have an agreement with DPO (which isn't difficult), you can spend a lot Less Money and they GET paid when the Criminals are finally Caught. That's how the Police work - they take a Percentage of ReCovered Funds.

Trying to catch the Criminal(s) now may not always be the best Option as this is the Hot Period they know to Lay Low.

ReLax now and Catch them when their Guards are Down.

Sorry for the Long Write-Up.

Bye for now

Wooooooow I really don't need to go into details with you, you know everything already!!!! I am really wowed.

Thanks for this advice, you made some really really intelligent points, I'm very very grateful. Right now, the number of the man is going? How do we locate him, because I don't know if the police will work on this. And we need this money back urgently because the current rent will expire by July. I was told the man is communicating with someone among us, so you are very right about not trusting anyone.

If You're are in Quick need of that Money, na Sorry I go tell You as that isn't going to be possible anytime soon.
so if your Rent is about to exPire, better start gathering another Money to either ReNew OR ReLocate.

My Comment above already to you all.

Now is the Hot Period, they are laying Low and Security Conscious. Even a Call from their Dear Mama might not be enough for them to show-up.

Allow them Cool down, get relaxed and catch them when their Defense is low. Now is not the Right time because they know they being Chased.
Some might even Travel outside the State where the Crime was committed BUT it's just so things can cool down.

What you should be doing now is Gathering InTel on them NOT trying to catch them.

Be Careful of those Among You all crying of being Defrauded as not all of You might be a Victim. You might think You all are in same Boat not knowing Some are Parading as Victims just so they are able to get First-Hand Intel on whatever steps you Victims are taking.

As for the Person whose Account You Paid into being called an Alhaji, I believe they know the Word Alhaji is synonymous to being Connected & Wealthy + Trust-Worthy hence you wouldn't want to look so deep into anything. Just like you wouldn't ask an Oba so much Questions if doing a Transaction with an Oba.

Like already said, now should be InTel Gathering stage and be sure no Intel you gather would raise a red flag for them to know They're being investigated.

After you have enough information on them, just LayLow waiting for them to come out of Hiding and that's when they Get caught.

Depending on how Sophisticated they are AND how much total they Stole from their Victims, it might not be so easy catching them on time.

UPDATE
I replied without reading your entire response above BUT after I posted this response, was when I saw this part of your Comment I was told the man is communicating with someone among us Am only pointing it out so you know How very Important it is for you to work alone on this. trust Yourself alone.

Even if you involve a Police not already involved now, there's no telling they wouldn't switch sides later; Money is very Powerful except you're stupid like me.

Infact, I have made a screenshot of your advice to remind myself everyday. Trust is actually the main issue now just as you stated in your comment, and it is even almost causing unnecessary quarels among some of the victims as people are holding back valid info. Thank you very much. I'll keep on updating you how this whole issue and lastly, we are planning to go to Alausa & EFCC tomorrow file a complaint, hopefully something good will come out of this, as we want them to seal up that building.

Update!

I met with some other victims today and to my greatest surprise we were about 170 victims and more are still coming as the Alhaji gave out 25th of June as the official date of moving in, so some are still unaware... I guess we should be around 200 or more in numbers. We converged at the house in question, then moved to Alausa where we protested till we spoke with the Deputy Governor of Lagos state-Mr Hamzat. This isn't the end, but for security purpose I won't reveal our other plans here but I'll keep you updated as we execute these plans by God's Grace.

I still wonder how one or a group of persons can conveniently defraud so many people without one tiny conscience? Even the police men at the State house were shocked! People's hard earned money collected in deceit...funniest part is, we have a police woman among us lol she is taking it up seriously! Those people are heartless really!!!!

Sealing the Building would be Good BUT

it can be by-Passed by those criminals.

All they need do is send someOne else to come forward claiming ownership of the building and not Aware of what happened.

might even claim to have traveled to far location and never instructed anyOne to rent it Out or know anyOne who might have done this.

At the end of the day, conclusion might end up being the Fraudsters used SomeOne's else Property to Perpetuate a crime without Owner's knowledge.

Be weary of anyOne trying to Be Close to You at this stage even if they look lost and confused and needing you to carry Him/Her along.

You might find yourself Borading a Bus/Bike or Trekking with SomeOne whom you think is also a Victim.
There're several ways to getting Close to SomeOne.

So I just Hope they are Caught.

Wow this is true! But I hope not really, I hope they won't come up with this annoying idea! People's accommodation are at Stake! Some people even came with their luggage yesterday thinking, they will just collect key and move in, as their current accommodation rent has expired. My prayer is we get this sorted out fast before it gets to the point of people giving up.

You are right about the trust issue, because I found out one of the agents I spoke with a while ago about getting an apartment, though a different one he is as well on the whatsapp group... Hummm.

No worries, just post the picture of the house and location here so it can be placed for sale.

That's the only way you can get your money.

200*let's say 400k. 80million. Omo, the money stolen is more than the house o. Now I want to believe this is the latest business in town.

Buy a house and collect money from countless people.

You can start by removing the doors, roofings, water systems and other valuable items for sale. If the sand remaining, call buyers to come buy them. Just give a soldier money Make he escort you everytime. Simple smiley
