Did u pay cash or by account?

If account, try and flag their account with their bank
By transfer...we are on that...thank you, but according to the bank he has cleared all his accounts.

They are on the run, but it seems the Alhaji has been arrested.
Wow. Police self will most likely mess up everything because the only thing they are interested in is not resolving the case but extracting money from both sides.

The best hope of getting the money is having the police charge the case to court, all these will also cost money.

You just need evidence that you sent money to him and the receipt too.

Infact, I have a feeling the police in that district must have been settled by these fraudsters, though I am not sure about this, but as a fraudster if I had my way , i'd first settle the police in that area, because I know that would be the first place my victims would go to.

Wooow okay I will inform the person who paid, because the person feels I am just being worried for nothing and so reluctant about requesting for payment or investigating them. I am actually the one running here and there. This is Lagos and I know how desperate people are when it comes to making money. I will keep you update as I need all the help I can get. Thank you so much.

Unfortunately, to tell you the truth, you can't get that money back.

I am not blaming you, but I blame the person who stubbornly and foolishly paid, remained relaxed and gave opportunity to the fraudsters to run away.

I really hope God provides for you to get another place cos shelter is important and you need it urgently.

IT TURNED OUT TO BE FRAUD!!!!!!

Saying I'm devastated is an understatement!!!!

You got an agent's number, called him requesting for an apartment.. You meet, he takes you to a nice affordable house....you like the house, he asked you to pay on time before someone else takes it up, you did and he said he won't give you the key yet until the completion of the house, because they are still working on it. He said, the keys would be given to you by a lawyer and the lawyer will give you another receipt in exchange for the one given to you by the agent and developer. So you are here waiting till that date given to you for collection after making full payment.

Has anything like this ever happened and turns out to be genuine or are they fraudsters?

They claimed all the houses have been taken, but another number was used to call the agent and he still mentioned the area of this particular house that they claim the apartments are all taken?

If they are fraudsters, what advise do you suggest in finding out their genuineness and what actions to be taken to recover the money before they flee.
Why didn't you do a background check on the house before paying for it?

What I know is after paying for a house, the keys will be given to you immediately or that same day.

You guys should jointly write a petition to the Efcc or Special Fraud Unit in Ikoyi.

Sure and they could be repeat offenders becoming police customers in the process. And the fraudsters will always be ahead. How much is the amount paid?

Once you pay a rent and the person refused to release the key for any reason, demand a refund instantly and if the agent refused, grab him there and make sure he is severely dealt with there..

Wow! Read this story from 1st page to last and I'm trying to catch a breath on how these men are able to perpetuate such crimes!

From my deductions these people are well connected with the forces that be I swear! Be it police, efcc, local chief's, and what not. Because if it's not juju what other covering will give these people such guts and confidence to defraud as much as 200 people within a very short time like this? It's simply bewildering!.

Well I'm sorry to all the victims involved I pray y'all get your money back and justice.

My lesson and advice even to self henceforth will be:

1. Before paying rent for any property ask those who are residing there already how they paid and identify from them the real owner of the house before payment is made.

2. Also before paying make sure the keys are handed over to you and that you have another key there and then to change the pre-existing ones. Even come with a carpenter if necessary!

3. Keep secret video recorders on your phone. The ones that uses front camera to record. There are many of them on playstore! At least I've caught some dumb-smart peeps with them before!

This our country na horror!

NIGERIANS LOVE WASTING TIME, ALL OF YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE BANK THE FIRST DAY WITH A REPUTABLE LAWYER, AND A NOTE FROM ABOVE, SO THAT THEY CAN FREEZE WHAT'S LEFT OF THE ACCOUNT, THAT WAY THEY CANNOT WITHDRAW AGAIN, WHICH MIGHT GET THEM STRANDED, SECONDLY, ANYWHERE THEY TRY TO WITHDRAW THEY WILL BE ARRESTED IMMEDIATELY, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE FROM THE VERY VERY FIRST DAY...........SOCIAL MEDIA DONT SOLVE CRIME, IF THE ACCOUNT HAAD BEEN FROZEN, ATLEATS THERE WILL BE HOPE, EVEN IF HE HIS OUT OF THE COUNTRY, HE WONT HAVE ACCESS TO THE MONEY, AND THE BANK CAN DETECT WHICH COUNTRY HE HIS TRYING TO MAKE THE WITHDRAWAL OR TRANSACTION FROM, NIGERIANSSSSSSSSS OOOOOOOOOOO

It's a new house, I guess.
Background checks work better in old houses.

It's the same whether new or old. I live in a new house. Before paying for it, I did a background check on it.

You are absolutely right....there are no reasons yet to draw any conclusion which seems annoying lol because now I just have to wait, anyways I will put this in prayers as God is the only One who can help me right now, and He knows their real identities. Thanks for your advice and concerns as talking about this helped eased this whole stress. I will give you more details as I go check the apartment and also once I have the key by God's Grace.....thank you so much.

When next you step into that house collect the keys and tell them you'll clean up yourself. Never ever pay and wait. House is plug and play. Learnt this the hard way.

Get the keys call carpenter change the door lock. Then it's yours. Anything else is story.

Also next time dont go alone go with one or two others. It's easier to intimidate a lone female but once you're two it gets harder.

Good luck.

Hello guys.... I'm devastated right now, I can't even think.... I just want to wake up from this dream. This would have been different if I didn't see it coming, God really tried to help us, it was very obvious! On my way to work yesterday, my mind wasn't at rest again, my spirit told me to go to that house to go check what is going on, I did and one of the men saw me there and came outside before I entered, he knew I know they are fraudsters but I have no evidence so he is always mean towards me, especially after I took pics of the agent. He said we should come today or Monday for the key, on getting there today, just as I suspected, many people were already in the apartment crying and most were shocked because many people paid up-to half a million for same apartment. The lucky ones are those who moved in first. Now I'm just sitting down confused, frustrated, I have no idea what to do....i tried but I wasn't listened to, somehow I might even be blamed as African mentality.

Well my advice came late. Plug and play. Once you pay collect keys straight and change the locks and put up curtains even if it's old bedsheets on the windows facing outside.

Lagos is full of thieves.

When u want to rent a house, collect your key immediately! With the necessary receipts. Within an hour or so, change the locks of the front door, and add toko taya to the door with another padlock! On it!
Then park in within a week, let's see if they will break down my door and give to another. Scammers everywhere like mtn

Exactly. That's my advice above but the scam has been pulled already.

Seriously?! shocked shocked shocked These guys are hardened criminal. I hope the bank would do something very quickly with the accounts. Justice should also come with full refund.

There Accounts could be frozen following executive order BUT i believe it would be of no use as the Monies would have left the account few minutes or seconds after it landed.

That's what any Person with Common sense would do. The Money might even be Transfered in another Account whose Paper trail might never trail thanks to Our Countries porous ways of Transactions.

Maybe them don even share the Money sef as soon as any Victim makes any payment.

Funny enough, upcoming Criminals would be Learning this Scams and altering them to perfect them.

Don't lose hope yet, @ Poster. God is on this case in ways you won't understand. If you know the details of the accounts of these fraudulent guys, the accounts can be blocked on orders of EFCC or the Police. It depends on if many of the victims paid by Cash or into bank accounts. At least, recovering your monies can commence by blocking the bank accounts you paid into. And then there must be a viable trail left by Mr Adewale and his Gang. The Police can crack this crime, Nairalanders. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Your instincts are giving strong signs that this is most likely a fraudulent activity being played out.Not to scare you dear friend but I would advice you involve the police if you don’t want to lose your money. The wait period as far as I’m concerned is for the people involved to get away.Follow your instinct darling.

I don't want to add to your fears, something similar happened around Ogba area (Ikeja) and was reported here on NL. The story sounds the same and it ended up being fraud.

I suggest you demand for the keys and do the cleaning by yourself rather than waiting for the 8 days.
good one,and if they refuse to give you the key, collect your money immediately
