Government universities: Ghana has better public universities than Nigeria. E.g University of Ghana(Ghana's best) is ranked higher than Uni of Ibadan(Nigeria's best)

Private universities: Nigerian private universities are better than the Ghanian ones.

Note: That UG is better ranked than UI is not really a proof of intellectual superiority but evidence of serious underfunding by Nigeria's FG. UG presumably receives huge funding from Ghana as a flagship university while Nigeria for political reasons fund the likes of ABU higher than UI.
Point of correction!

U.I is presently the best in West Africa.

Then UG too is only by Reuters.

The fact that a reputable ranking ranked U.I higher shows UG is not greater than U.I as you want people to believe.

in a nutshell, University of Ghana is not absolutely ranked higher than U.I!

what are you saying? both reuters and QS are reputable ranking body.

And every institution had their own pattern of measurement. The American ranking body Qs and its British counterpart says ( UG) is ahead of any west African uni. i didn't says so.

let people make their own decision base on these data.

Really and truly i lived in ghana between 2006-2007 almost a year plus and as an ex-unilag student i can boldly and confidently tell you about both countries educational standard to an extent without bn bias.....ghana education is highly rated on media than what is physically obtainable compare to Nigeria, for real i met many of ghana students and ex-students then and i can tell you for free their level of exposure, intelligent and IQ is below to my expectation so i need not anyone to tell me about what is in their schools again, i have seen all i need see and this can be verify in both countries manpower outputs and resources. Despite all nigeria as a nation is bn confronted with still they are still pushing forward their education thou they still have a lot to do. so i will advise if anyone wish to school outside nigeria pls choose wisely but not any west Africa countries.

Well, I am Ghanaian. I once did a post graduate programme at the University of Abuja and my observations are different from yours. I had nigerian friends at various universities in Nigeria, including unijos, unimaids, uniben etc. in my opinion, Ghanaian standards are far ahead of Nigeria. In Nigeria, there were students who were not even going to lectures and yet were passing through the system.

I remember a friend in Lagos who introduced me to what he called “MBA by DHL”. What he told was that all you needed to do was to pay a huge sum to the people that matter, you just wait and by the time you graduate, your MBA certificate will be delivered to you by DHL without you even bordering to attend lectures. I have a nigerian friend who is senator in your country. He went to unijos. We used to joke about his time at Unijos and the stories he told me were incredible. And you want to tell me students from unijos are better than students in Ghana? Are you aware there are nigerian unverisity graduates today who can barely speak or write good English? I have been exposed to both nigerian and Ghanain universities. Anyone telling you nigerian universities are better, is a big liar.

Most of you Nigerians are needlessly biased. Look at the nigerian educational system with all the problems. If ASUU is not on strike, secret cults are on rampage, classes and dormitories are overcrowded. Ghanaian universities don’t face those challenges students in Nigeria face. So how can standards be better in Nigeria? You people should fear God ooh and stop telling lies just to make your country look better.

Come to the law faculty of the university of Ghana and tell me if there is any law faculty in nigerian university that matches the Legon standard.

I have been to several nigerian universities, including unilag, lasu, uniben, uniabuja, unijos, unimaid etc so you are not talking to someone who is not conversant with the Nigerian university system.

The bolded text isn't peculiar to Nigerian universities alone as it happens in other countries.

I understand where you are coming from and all you wrote here is true however this isn't a yardstick to rate a school. Are you also aware that there are Ghanaians graduate that can't do as mentioned in the bolded text? I was expecting good measurement not perceived measurement. Ghana universities are good no doubt but please you don't need to use the bolded to rate it high.

Why should you use this parameter to judge Nigerian university why not restrict it to public Nigeria universities?

How many universities have you been to in Nigeria? You just pick few universities to hurriedly draw conclusion.
Re: Comparing Nigerian And Ghanian Universities. Which Is Better? by Nobody:
Please Mr poster, stop comparing Nigerian universities with Ghana as every country is unique in its own way. Someone raised an issue of Tuition fee for foreigners on this platform I think this issue need to be address instead of downgrading and hyping universities. I know for fact that the fees paid by EU citizens are cheaper compare to non EU members. What is ECOWAS doing in this regard to assist member countries?. If a Ghanian wants to school in Nigeria, his or her fee shouldn't be the same with other foreign students. This topic should be discussed here instead of rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana.

I don’t know what you are talking about. I should list all the nigerian universities I’d been to? You, how many Ghanaian universities have you been to that you are drawing conclusions? I don’t know any Ghanaian university graduate who cannot speak or write English. Do you know any? But yes, I personally know some nigerian graduates who cannot speak or write good English.

How can anyone tell me nigerian universities are better than Ghanaians when you and I know the huge peculiar problems nigerian universities face. Overcrowding alone is a big problem in nigerian universities, especially publicly owned universities. ASUU is on strike half of the time. The lecturers sell marks for sex or money. The lecturers in Nigeria are not even motivated. Secret cults is also a big problem.

From what I know and experienced, the difference between Ghana and Nigeria is 7UP. There is no basis for comparison. But of course, you Nigerians can decide to deceive and delude yourselves.

I never for once said Nigerian universities are better Ghanaians rather I pointed out the flaws in your assertions. You should be comparing the public universities not generalizing the whole thing. There universities in Nigeria that do not experience the aforementioned problem you buttressed so why use few ones to generalized? It might shock you to know that I have seen many Ghanaian graduates that can't speak or communicate effectively in English so don't use English as an execuse to drive a point. I think I blame the writer for posting this on this forum just because he wants to stir unnecessary argument.

The problems you highlighted are peculiar to most public universities not all Nigerians patronize them.

Yes I got you. I think op is just been mischievous in the whole thing. Probably he hasn't left Nigeria to other countries.

I once tried to raise this topic for discussion but Nairaland is a playground and not a place serious talk.

OP, do your Biology course here in Nigeria and make a first class, then apply for scholarship for MSc. Some schools may consider you for post of a junior lecturer. After that, you can then work towards attaining your PhD.
