Why Is There So Much HATE On Nairaland? by lionel4power(m): 10:47am On Jun 30, 2019
No where else on Nigerian cyber space is there so much exhibition of bitterness, pain, anger and violence than in Nairaland.

Over the years, Nairaland has degenerated into a place to show anger, rage and biased tendencies.

Every single topic posted on this platform is like an avenue to show hate, callousness and wickedness.

The hate Nairalanders exhibit towards Victims is alarming.

If for instance, a post about a girl being raped is sent to the front page, the victim would always would be blamed.

Why do Nairalanders hate and blame the victims of a crime instead of providing real, practical and actionable solutions.

Does that suggests the type of society Nigeria operates? if that is the case, then I weep for this country.

Everyday, every post all we see on the comment section is

HATE HATE HATE

BITTERNESS BITTERNESS BITTERNESS

ANGER ANGER ANGER

INSULTS INSULTS INSULTS

Most Nairalanders believe that through their 'bant' they are just being savage, realistic or even modern... but the very truth is they are just showing HATE.

This sadistic HATE peddlers just wake up in the morning, jump on Nairaland just to look for victims to hate on.

The worst tribalist are on Nairaland.
The worst Racist are on Nairaland.
The worst Sexists are on Nairaland.

I have come to understand that these people prefers to hate on RAPE victims here.

From my experience on Nairaland, I have come to understand that most people here are below 24 years, if not why all this exhibition of hate.

Some people here don't even read a post, they just read the headlines and then rush to post insult.

------
ON NAIRALAND,
Every female celebrity is a prostitute.
Every successful woman is a prostitute.
------

On Twitter, Nairaland is considered a place where angry children gather. That's why other sensible social media platforms confuse "this angry bitter Nairalanders."

Think about this, why does every story, blog, news or article on Nairaland copied from Twitter or Instagram?

Why can't Nairaland news be copied into other social media platforms?

I hope we try and clean up our social media presence and activities, for our country's sake.

Because, for someone to call a female RAPE victim is responsible for her predicament, then I'm afraid for Nigeria.

defending a Rapist makes you a Rapist too.

It shows that this place is not fit to raise a girl child.

I know Nigeria is a messed up place, but if you carry the bitterness and anger inside you then it will start affecting your humanity.

It's a faceless medium. That's why a child that is still struggling with jamb can comfortably insult a senior citizen. You don't expect 'celebritites' in that kind of platform.
Also our moderators are only after yansh and boobs stories without looking at original content here.

Just see the platform as the truest reflection of who we are and what we stand for as Nigerians.

Once you learn to see it that way, nothing you see or receive here will ever come as a surprise.

Exactly. They spend their lives (hopefully, they don't live with the regrets later) trying to come up with loads of nastiness so they appear "savage".

Wait a few minutes (after church service and Sunday rice)and see how this thread would become their latest platform for showing anger, hate and obloquy.

The electioneering strategy of 2015 has torn through the fabric of the nations structure filling the soul of the nation with hate, anger, bigotry and all sorts that even wasn't witnessed before and after the civil war. This negative energy is simply looking for ways to express itself which unfortunately S.M becomes the beneficiary

Glad someone is writing this. You see, hate is one thing, chauvinism is another.

Yes, Nairalanders are extremely divided along ethnic and religious lines and they go about it with so much hatred but what you described up there is the typical chauvinistic nature of Nairaland boys. Yes, let's not blanket it all as "hate". Let's be bold enough to mention the problem, isolate it and address it without the fear of being called "woman wrapper".

A typical NL boy believe it's a "male thing" to denigrate ladies. Such persons join the bandwagon to call women unprintable names at the slightest provocation. They believe the world revolves around them. When a woman commits a crime, you see "fear women", when a man does, it's normal. When a man cheats, it's the fault of the wife for not taking care of him or maybe the fault of the side chick for allowing the man approach her; men are meant to cheat anyway. When a woman cheats, fear women. When a woman uses se.x objects, she's a mess but when a man does, it's because the women are claiming important. If a woman refuses you se.x, her own is too much; if she gives it to you, she's a LovePeddler. When a woman is young and flashy, she is a hoe; when she gets older, she's an old newspaper. When a fine lady graduates with good grades, she must have slept her way through. When a lady make a money, she must be keeping sugar daddies. When a woman is raped, it's her fault. Why did she dress that way?

I've come to believe these boys are so insecure and fear the acceptance of women as entities that can be equally successful. They try hard to protect their fragile ego especially those who have nothing going for them other that the fact that they are men.

It's chauvinism. And that's what feminism has come to address.

Well it seems you've taken a good lots of time in figuring it out.

Your post reminds me of a discussion I had with a young man in my area. we were talking about why Nigerian girls in rural areas tend to get pregnant before a certain age.

Some things this particular man said to me was quite troubling. I was really shocked to hear such from a 30 years old man.

For instance, he said a girl wearing a particular type of dress in an isolated place is asking to be raped. Imagine!!
EVEN if its a public place.

Even in her house she must not dress in some ways if she is alone with a man.
EVEN IN HER OWN HOUSE.

na wa oo

so I asked him what about in Western societies were women wear skimpy dresses and yet they feel safe, his only reply is that Western world is not Nigeria.

The one thing that really irks me in this matter is most hateful comments come from youths the so called leaders of tomorrow, youths who ought to be thinking of ways to make thi country better than what our parents birthed us into for our future's sake.

We keep blaming our old leaders for causing division among us but the thing is we allowed them to. This is an age where nothing is to be taken at face value but we still let our patriarchs and matriarchs to fill our heads with inciteful speeches that does only them good.

I personally think that the solution to this is to punish blogs and websites with fines for those who post hateful/narcisstic/hateful on their sites, this would make them moderate comments on their posts efficiently.
failure to do so after a certain amount of warning fines would lead to the site being shut down.

Reddit is honestly worse.
The internet provides a chance for low lives to stay anonymous while voicing half baked opinions.
It’s better they hyperventilate here where we can laugh over their stupidity than spread ignorance in real life.

Personally I think most hate speech here are from those who feel attached to one political party or another. It got worse in the build up to 2015 general election, the outcome of 2015 general election skyrocketed a lot of people to an unprecedented unimaginable expanse of hate. To the extent that a Nairalander said he can kill even his own mother if she decides to support a particular party, imagine shocked
The same scenario played out before and after 2019 general election, people call other tribes and religion faithfuls unprintable names.
They use every available opportunity to vent their hatred eg threads on crime, they condemn a whole tribe for the crime of one person, they call out a whole religion or church for the crime of a member.
Yet on Fridays and Sundays they carry their hate filled heart to go to Mosque or church to worship God, which God
I used to call out some of these people but I realized that it usually turn to bashing each other, thereby making me to be just like them,so I have decided to leave every to their conscience and foolishness.
But I know for sure, Nairaland can change,we can learn to love the way we learn to hate. Nigeria is a religious country, what's the essence of the religion if it doesn't affect our lives morally and bring joy to others

Nairaland was not like this before.

Before, it was more of Nigerians in diaspora that were active nairalanders and they understood life better because they were well educated.

But today, nairaland has become toxic because most active nairalanders are Nigerians living in Nigeria. This is a result of the poor standard of education in Nigeria.

The hate speech is too much and it's going to get worst..
