Privatisation of the power sector has been a colossal failure. The federal government should retrieve the discos by any means possible. They are not interested in giving people electricity rather they just want to make a killing with outrageous bills.
The boldness they have in raping our pocket is even what i hate most, they are rude , lack courtesy and feel to important for a private service provider who i bought the light, my meter and even transformer from without any contribution... my tax payers money and gas resources from our land still provides the power

GEJ was a disgrace. Even with his PhD, he and his numerous advisers couldn't see the stupidity in creating private monopolies.

If I hear am say the process becomes transparent. In oil and gas sector, government representation is adequate but there is underreporting of the barrels of oil by the companies. There is non-stop gas flaring in most onshore locations
You spoke my mind, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) which is 100% run by Government is still poorly managed and always having System Collapse.
Even if Government representation in Discos is increased to 90% the problem will still persist.

From what I read in a publication, even if the Generating Stations gënerates 15,000MW, the National grid run by TCN doesn't have the capacity to transmit such amount of power to Distributors.
TCN needs a lot of improvement too before stable electricity is possible.

Rather than invest sufficient funds into that we are RUGAing up and down.

Often times we just honour their PhD or their Professor tittle, but ultimately it boils down to Professor in what, Professor mahmud of INEC is a Professor of History, and he doesnt have the capacity to run such technical position like Prof Jega a statistician, or Iwu a lawyer... Same as Dr of Zoology, he is a scientist without manegeria or governace skills.

Government involvement in the business is not a good move. It should rather focus on providing enabling environment for the discos and other firms in the power value chain to thrive.
I guess that maxim will need to be excused in this regard. The current Discos we have are saboteurs, more NEPA in a different skin or worse.

Hmm...
Madam,

You've mixed things up here.
1. Under reporting of barrels of oil? I don't get you here, care to elaborate?
2. "Non-stop gas flaring" has nothing to do with govt representation or non-representation.....
3. If you're referring to JV coys in 2 above, you need to understand how it works

I weep for my country Nigeria. Even after more than 50 years , we can't fix the power sector. Still setting up Board over mere 4000mw of electricity. Who did we offend, O God have mercy.
Narratives like these are just useless lamentations. What solution do you propose?

While you're trying to "sweeten" your narrative...pls note that Prof. Maurice Iwu is a Professor of Pharmacology and not a lawyer

They are not useless as you think. They are rather eye-openers showing us the mediocrity and lack of vision of the slowpokes we called leaders right from the 1970s up till now. They are selfish, tribalistic and corrupt. They are actually rulers not leaders. You can't ask your followers to suggest solution if you are a competent leader. If you don't have solutions as leaders to problems confronting your people , resign. We don't need people with low IQ as leaders .
