Funnily enough,. American car maufacturers have struggled against foreign manufacturers in the past, and present even with protective tarrifs and all the measures you have talked about.

Also, slightly off point...for a car industry to work...you need smaller companies that make the tiny compnents...which is a big problem local manufacturers face (and why an innoson is more expensive than a second hand car)

Finally, Innoson needs to up his game. Because no how, no how, there always would be compeition.

No doubt... they have struggled because of greed period. Their main concern was end of year profit... that's good... the CEO retains his job and gets a high bonus. To move away from combustion engines ... the FG set a Mike's per gallon requirement.... minimum of X mpg by year Y... lessen to X mpg by year Z etc... and at the same time set up a hugh subsidy plan for cars that depend less on fuel. That's when hybrid took off..... Toyota and Honda took up that offer.... Toyota invested heavily and came up with the Prius...Honda the Insight. Ford...GM... did nothing. As the years went by... the subsidy reduced.. it was then after Prius sales were skyrocketing that GM now got on board with the Volt... a miserable failure. The foreign companies keep pushing to be ahead of the curve while US companies keep trying to meet the basic requirements. Now the competition is sooo fierce... GM is sooo far behind... that Ford is coming out of the regular car business... will now focus on pick up trucks... SUVs and muscle cars.

@ Innoson... or anywhere else... a used car is always cheaper than a new one... regardless of availability or price of components. Renault with all their components readily available will also be more expensive. You wouldn't find ones up in Car Talk here asking Should I go for a new Renault so and so with my N900K?..or Nigeria used 2007 Camry?
