The remains of a supermarket employee who vanished 10 years ago have been discovered in an 18-inch gap behind a freezer inside the store.

Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada was working at the No Frills Supermarket in Council Bluffs, Iowa when he went missing on November 28, 2009.

The 25-year-old was reported missing by his parents after he ran out of the family home in a snowstorm following an argument.

He failed to return home and was never heard from again.

Police had no leads in his missing person's case for a decade until a decomposing body was miraculously discovered back in January.

Contractors had gone into the supermarket, which shut down three years ago, to remove the fittings and tear apart the freezer unit.

They discovered the body in an 18-inch gap between the freezer and a wall.

At the time, authorities said it appeared the body had been there for a lengthy period of time.


The remains were sent off for DNA testing after they were discovered and police have only just confirmed that they belong to Murillo-Moncada.

He was last seen leaving his family home in Iowa following an argument.

His parents reported him missing the following day when he failed to return home.

Numerous former shoppers have since posted on Facebook that they could always smell something terrible when they were inside the store.

Explorers wait holon holon. You mean to tell me a whole human being died and was decomposing and people were using that freezer everyday and nothing smelled off to them? Like their noses were off duty or what? Btw how did he die? How did his body get behind the freezer? I don't imagine he crawled in there by himself for a nap? Simple- this was a murder. Case solved, on to the next

I don't trust the supermarket, this is a murder case, so nobody could percieve the horrifying smell of his decomposing body, his body fluid, or the maggots?
