Nigerians are intelligent but our educational system is rubbish. You can't give what you don't have. Doctors trained in Nigeria can hardly handle serious surgical operations. Don't get me wrong, it's not the fault of our graduates but rather the problem is from our educational system. You can't compare a doctor trained in Nigeria to another trained in the USA.
so what is your definition of serious surgical cases, do we fly in foreigners to separate conjoined twins here in Nigeria or kidney transplants, what about cases of hip replacement, are laparoscopy surgeries not done in our teaching hospitals these days, the American trained doctor has the advantage of using modern equipment and techniques to learn his trade, unlike our doctors who rely more on clinical acumen for diagnosis, take away the equipment and so from a trained doctor abroad and you will see the clinical deficiency, that's why our docs often do well on thetr foreign exams, we just hope one day the Nigerian factor will be removed so that we can move forward.

The evidence is glaring, saying over 60% is an understatement. The Nigeria educational system has only succeeded in producing useless Doctors, lawyers, and Engineers. Engineering is worse, closely followed by Medicine and then Law. I have always encouraged anyone with money not to waste his/her time studying in Nigeria Universities.
You might perceive the problem but you have an empirical evidence is much accepted. If I tell you that 98% of Nigerian men are cheat would you believe?

I understand what you are trying to say, that was why I stopped at 60% even though I know if proper analysis and records are taken it will be higher than that.

If you dive deep into all you have said, you will find out that most of those operations are carried out by Nigerians trained abroad. Do you know how many Nigerians who seek surgical operations abroad? If not for financial constraints, I doubt if any Nigerian will want to receive treatment here in Nigeria. Even if you remove the equipment and technology, you still can't compare any Nigerian trained doctor to their counterpart abroad, their educational system is well planned. As you said, Nigerians do excellently well abroad which is evidence that Nigerians are intelligent but our rubbish educational system is the problem we are facing in Nigeria. Anyone that can afford it should just travel out of this country to get quality education until our useless leaders decide to take education more seriously.

Over 60% of medical doctors are useless especially all these new generation doctors. Most of them can't carry out a successful surgery. The errors of all these useless doctors have sent many to their early graves. Nothing is working in this country. Engineers and lawyers are another set of useless people. SMH

Engineering graduates are the worst. Most engineering graduates are theoretically inclined and have little or no practical knowledge.

Can't blame me. Im sure those cases were because the victims were related to some big governemnt official or related to one doctor
Hospitals cover up over lots of negligent cases ..this is why I have no respect for DR.WADA his own is to just make money and name yet the hospitals he sits on have over enough cases of negligence ..I f I begin to site examples you would be shocked from garki specialist to nisa premier ....just there to make money and have harmed people enough

If Nigeria had a functional system,we won't even travel to any country for medical attention.I personally had very terrible experience on operation table in garki specialist and had I lost my life they would have hidden it

I am strongly in your support on this request.

It is painful and indeed a gross negligence of duty to be out of duty post when a life is at stake. We love and respect our medical doctors but it is a diservice to the nation and indeed humanity to take for granted the confidence reposed on you in saving lives of people.
Is it the doctor's fault? Or perhaps the hospital's for not having someone on premises?
Not sure how calls/rotation work there, but it's possible (in fact probable) that the riots/disturbance restricted movement on the day. RIP Bro!

There are SCORES of Nigerian doctors trained/practiced abroad who have returned and are practicing in private hospitals...

My heart is bleeding with pain! Just imagine a hospital of that status in our dear country? Not issue of competence of the Doctors, but either the hospital could not make a solid arrangement for doctors to be on duty or doctors absconding/ not able to report. Now a life has been lost.

God, please help us and give true leaders.

But when they owe us salary or when we work with substandard medical equipments, you won't bring out your dirty mouth outside to ask the government why. Ungrateful beings..
We can't die in the job.
Doctor? Please read my comment again before you start insulting me. I repeat, we respect our doctors that care to stay behind in Nigeria to serve, but you will agree with me that it is totally unacceptable, unprofessional and unpatriotic to fail to report on duty after you have honourably accepted to serve. Imagine if the victim(God forbid) were your blood brother , will you with good conscience not be angry with such colleague whose professional misconduct cause such death? We are not absolving the hospital management from blame, indeed, we expect your union in such hospital to come out with their position on the blame game. We, the citizens, must collaborate with Doctors, hospital Management and Government to ensure our system work. It is in our best interest.

I will like to suggest you don't insult people for their comments on social media.

What if he's sabi g lives in another center. There are shortage of doctors in Nigeria. And the rate of producing specialists is tightened these days.
I agree with you on shortage of Medical Doctors.

My worry is that we are not even seen the needed outrage from the citizens on this matter.

I expect everywhere on social media to be on fire , demanding for the true position of event that lead to the death of the young man following the comment of the father. It appears to me that Nigerians are perhaps giving up.

My apologies for the insult.
But you could have also tried to find out why the docotr wasn't in his duty post, if you really cared so much. Instead of putting up that post.
You should also understand that there are genuine reasons that doctor allegedly was not on his duty post. Put that in mind.
Now, instead of bashing and putting up placards for the govt to see to it that the culprits who rained bullets on the nysc member (a national property) be put to justice, you decided to point fingers on an innocent doctor who was unfortunate to be absent at he time of incident.
It's not humane. Thankyou.

Why not probe the Nigerian Police who used live ammunition on unarmed protesters leading to your son's death?

Egbon Ayo dont be greedy. Just take the 1million Naira NYSC has offered you and allow your son to rest in peace.
You are beginning to lose it
