It's you people that make up such assumptions in your mind.

The North is far more diversified than Southern Nigeria.
The numbers of tribes in 3 States in the North is more than the numbers of tribes in SW, SS and SE.
However, the Religion of Islam has become a unifying factor and the new foremost Identity.

Buckubuck:
But almost every northern Muslim wants to be seen as Fulani or hausa

It's not any people. It's how they want to be seen. Except you've not lived among them. Nobody doubts the diversity of the north. But most Muslims in the north identify with the hausa-Fulani label more than their original tribes. That Islam is a unifying factor is true. Moreso that they've all adopted hausa as the northern lingua franca

Dr Ahmed Lawan Ph.D (APC, Yobe North) is from Gashua Town and belong to the Baade Tribe NOT FULANI or KareKare.

KareKare are in Fune, Nangere, Fika, Potiskum and some parts of Bauchi State.

Although Fulani migrants can be found in all these LGAs but their 'kingdoms' are mainly in Mashio, Kolelere, Ngelzarma and Jajere, all in Fune LGA. However because the Fulanis aren't aboriginals in these places, the original Headquarters of the LGA who moved from Ngelzarma ( controlled by the Fulanis) to Damagum (controlled by Mangawas, a subset of the Kanuris) in 1976.
The Fulanis are sometimes victims of discrimations in Yobe State.

Marotzke:
you got a lot of things right.
But Ahmed Lawan Potiskum?
From my reckoning Potiskum is Yobe south, but lawan is representing Yobe North.
He took over from Al Bishir right ?
Means he is from Gashua Nguru axis.
A whole lot of Fulani are from there.
Though his body mass and complexion is not that of a Fulani, but he is not karekare.
Kanuri?
Which local govt?

You are making another wrong assumptions.

In Lagos, anybody after Benin is wrongly labelled 'Igbo'. Does that mean Efik, Ijaw, Ishan or Ogonis wish to be seen as Igbos?

In the build-up to the 2011, I sampled opinions of my co-workers in Yobe State. To my greatest surprise most of them, including University educated ones wrongly assumed that President Goodluck Jonathan is an Igboman!
Ihad to explain to many that Jonathan is an Ijawman and Ijaws are NOT Igbos.

Sometimes, the Fulanis are themselves victims of discrimations. For instance, it will be very difficult for a Fulani to win Governorship elections in Yobe, Borno or Nasarawa States.

Despite the overwhelming popularity of Buhari/APC in the core North during the 2015 elections, the APC lost Yobe State senatorial district partly because they presented a minority Fulani (Alkali Jajere) as their candidate.

Seems like you have a problem understanding simple English. I said most northern Muslims easily identify with Hausa-fulani than their tribes. My position is based on personal experience not assumption. Do you understand now?
Besides, Fulani are a major tribe in yobe state

When it's North Vs South Political contests, they may align with the the Hausa-Fulani but within the North Vs North context, they emphasize the differences.

Pure breed Fulanis are actually a minority (less than in Ijaws) in Nigeria. Most Nigerian Fulanis are mixed with Hausa , Yorubas (in Ilorin) and several small tribes.

You can only get undiluted Pure breed Fulanis possibly in Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba where cultural assimilation fail to take place because the surrounding indigenous tribes failed to embrace Islam en mass in the 19th century Jihad.

Thinkfree:
Dariqa, Izala,Qadiriya are all Sunni
That's not true.... Dariqa is an Arabic name which means 'way' and is a family name for sects other than Sunni and Shi'a.

Under Dariqa we have Qadiriyya led by Qaribullah Nasiru Kabara of Kano State.

We equally have Tijjaniyya led by Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

We have several other Dariqa sects in the Country.....
