oh okay. I served in Imo in 2015 and on several occasion they saw snakes and allowed it move away. Thank you for this clarification.

Yes. If you kill it, you will be required by tradition to do a befitting, human-type burial for it. No matter who you are.
But just pythons. There are several reasons for this tradition. One is, I think, that the pythons ensure that no one (especially small chilldren) are killed by other venomous snakes as the pythons eat these snakes hence protect the community.
