A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted the application filed by the Department for State Service (DSS) to keep publisher of popular news platform, Sahara Reporters, Mr Omoyele Sowore, in its custody for 45 days.

The nation’s secret police had sought for permission to detain the former presidential aspirant in its facility for 90 days, but the court halved the number of days requested for.

Mr Sowore was picked in Lagos in the wee hours of Saturday, August 3, 2019 by the DSS over his call for revolution in the country through a protest fixed for Monday, August 5, 2019.

In a statement earlier issued by the police last weekend, the protest, tagged #RevolutionNow, was described as treasonable felony, with demonstrators warned to stay clear or be ready to face the full wrath of the law. At the protest on Monday, some of those who defied the warning were arrested by the police at different locations.

The group accused the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari of failing to deliver what he promised Nigerians when he sought for votes from the electorates.

While ruling today on the ex parte application filed by the DSS, Justice Taiwo Taiwo said the agency can seek for an extension to further detain Mr Sowore when the present order expires on September 21, 2019.

That's wonderful.. it should have been more.
Gullible and ignorant Nigerians don't know the implications of what Sowore is doing.. Most of those making noise on social media supporting him should go out and protest if they have the mind,I trust our security agencies, they will show you guys pepper... Either you guys like it or not we don't have any other country apart from Nigeria. If you guys have any other country apart from Nigeria, you can kindly move to that country instead of supporting a dangerous move that will put our dear country into war..Libya,somalia,venuezuela,etc are examples..This is not freedom of speech, if such things happens in the US,the govt. will secretly and technically use the CIA to eliminate that person. They will not waste their time to arrest that person.. Real freedom fighters not fake like Martin Luther king,Malcolm x,Bob Marley, 2pac,etc..are all victims of such...A word is enough for the wise..

Infact, that 45 days is just the beginning.

Sowore should start consulting his doctor for advice on which sickness to present.

That is the trick lamidi cownu used and elzakzaki sef don see say that trick makes sense. grin

I want to assume there's a tangible reason the order was granted.

I would have been surprised if court completely ignore the plea to detain him. You cannot stage a match to remove a duly elected leadership of a country by the majority of the populace. That means you are inviting anarchy.
