SARS operative was shot death

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have killed a shop owner in Ijegun area of Lagos.

Biliki was hit by a bullet on Saturday after the policemen fired at a suspect who was on the run.

Igbere TV gathers that the shop owner was hit while in her store which is on a street close to the Oba’s palace.

One of the SARS operatives was immediately mobbed by irate residents.

Biliki was said to have died in a hospital.

Lagos police spokesman, Bala Elkana, has not made a statement on the incident.

Even getting the warrant in the US is not as easy as it sounds, the police has to present some evidence as to why they think the person is a suspect to the district attorney before they are able to secure a warrant, they can't just go to the district attorney and say I suspect Mr A for a crime and just get a warrant. Nigeria will remain a third world country.

There are channels to seek justice for acts of misdemeanour and lately the police have been acting decisively against its rank and file who have gone rogue. This is the best way forward. On this matter there is yet concrete proof the death of that trader was deliberate. It was most likely a tragic accident and there are strong official reprimands for such incidents.

Internet fraud is not a victimless crime. It may not involve physical violence but it has victims - and the fallout very often does lead to physical violence. Victims can and do commit suicide when all they have worked for over a lifetime is lost.

This nonsense being peddled around that internet fraud is somehow higher in the hierarchy of moral context than armed robbery or kidnapping has got to stop. They are all serious crimes and they are not victimless.
