The Youth Council of Ohaneze Ndigbo, has reacted to the call by Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai for the abolition of zoning ahead of 2023 Presidency.

El-Rufai had recently expressed he favours competence over zoning, making a case for the abandonment of rotational presidency.

But reacting on Friday, via a statement by its President-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Ohanaeze Youth Council, said the governor was blinded by his ambition to become president.

Read statement below

“The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council cannot ignore the recent statement by Governor el-Rufai, who is blinded by his ambition to become president by championing the abolishment of zoning formula and the gentleman’s agreement that had existed between North and South since 1999.

“For posterity’s sake, we wish to remind Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, that Christian prayers from Southern Kaduna alone will never allow him succeed in his presidential project.

“Governor el-Rufai was a major beneficiary of the zoning arrangement in the 2015 governorship election in Kaduna and now he wants to thwart the glaring opportunity for a Nigerian President of Igbo stock to emerge in 2023.”

Igbo stock? like bend down select clothes cheesy

anyway kudos to ohaneze youth for promoting Igbo presidency, not this one their online warriors are threatening that hold no water

PDP should be kind enough to give Igbo presidency, they're minority in APC. if APC can deny them the majority leader slot, then they should forget going for any Pipedream presidency under APC they detest

Igbo should leave APC out of their internal political discourse. APC is an evil party, Islamic party then why bother about who they choose to settle with as candidate. let PDP give them presidential slot if they've the liver cheesy

You guys are only dreaming. It will take the grace of God for even Southwest to produce the next president. Let alone Southeast. I am from South-South. I can tell you that the next 10 presidency isn't sure for Southeast.

Nice one... Let us all stand for the truth.

Igbo land has had many leaders since 1999-2019, each with different Idealogies, example Orji Uzor Kalu being former Pdp governor and now All senator or Uche Nwosu of former IMO Apc and now AA.

We cant Use Ohakims judgement on Nigerias problem to Judge maybe Uche Nwosu, a fellow imolite and politician.

Let us Give South east a chance all other regions got there's under different circumstances even those who didnt merit it and was brought out of nowhere yet they served in there capacity.

I believe this President will heal alot, even if its one term.

peace

I wish a Religious fanatic like El Rufai would become the president.
He may end up Driving this Country into Religious and Ethnic chaos with his Egocentric and Extreme movements against the Christendom.

Somebody would surely burst the bubble called Nigeria.

Gov Elrufai knows that the South West will not allow the presidency to go to South East if the zoning arrangement to the south is maintained. He strongly believes the best should emerge irrespective of where you are coming from.

I support El Rufai in this case of competence over zoning because if it were the benchmark for electing officials, I feel no Fulani dullard would have ever smelled any public office including him.

Thumb up my friend. Any reply to El Rufai's comment, which is not based on ABOLITION OF FEDERAL CHARACTER as a COUNTER to the suggested abolition of zoning of presidency is simply thoughtless and pointless.

Lol..which Igbo President in 2023? If that is the reason why the Ohanaeze people are against Buhari, then, they should not bother, because there will be no Igbo President in Nigeria come 2023.

It is the Yoruba people that will benefit from it, so, if they knoe what is good for them, they should even support El-rufai

It's a waist of time and resources responding to El-Rufai because he has always been known for controversies.

Allow them do their politicking. They are confident of 2023 Presidency and by virtue of the North and South agreement, 2023 should be the turn of the South East. Only the Igbo nation is yet to the taste the Presidency since 1999, the SW have enjoyed 8 uninterrupted years and the SS 6 years. Equity demand the SE produce the next President from the south.
