For instance; you buy a new internet enabled phone that does NOT have camera(s). Buy a new sim card that’s NOT registered (let’s say before the era of sim reg, I don’t want to use the era of sim reg so that I don’t give people new ideas). You bought this all cash.

Now on this phone, you will never login to your personal fb, email account, other social media accounts, bank accounts etc.

Create a new email address, sign up to a bunch of sites, write a bunch of posts and then throw the phone with the sim in the lagoon.

Now on your personal phone, apply for a job with your personal email, phone number, bla bla and NOT with the email or phone number in the phone you just threw away.

Now write a short note on how op can connect you with the posts you made with the phone you threw away in the process of vetting you for a new job.
Here's the thing , let's be realistic

You created a new email.address to sign up on social media right ? But tossed the phone (this is irrelevant)

You surely want me to trace you because it means you will access these social media platforms from devices you use personally

I am sure you know due to the recent global clear net standards.second verification on new devices signing into an.existimg account is a must? Why do you think that is?

If you are signing up from a new device you will be required to verify on the new device hence leaving my digital footprints for someone less skilled to trace you with

The smart thing would be to have kept the device .
..I won't say more in other for certain individuals not to learn

Now if your aim was to create a social media account and abandon then that served no purpose... Criminals don't think this way that's why they are easy to catch if one really wants to catch them

Outline a proper scenario and I will indulge you

I have traced even mods like Mynd44 to their personal accounts , blogs, school forum groups

No Nigerian mobile career offers static IP address to individual pay as you go users. You cannot reliably trace anyone based on their device's dynamic IPs that literally change several times while in active session.

illitrate:
How about if a trace is ran on your public ip to determine whatever goes out and comes in to your ip, even with your vpn we still do stuff.

I am certified expert in digital forensics.

Even FBI (on Invictus Obi's case) had to subpoena Google in order to gain access to account that received fraudulent email from a hacked corporate account.

Digital footprints are real. But tracing it is not magical art. Stop making it appear like one.

Long story short he scammed me and blocked me on Whatsapp

Mind you this number wasn't a registered number

I traced him, found his four Facebook accounts, I found his wife's Facebook , his wife's mobile number and the church where they wedded, I sent him his wedding photos too.

None of this information was ever on nairaland, in his seven nairaland accounts he claimed he stays in Lagos , I traced him to jos in ,4 hours

His real name and his location in Jo's and sent all to his other number on WhatsApp he never posted on nairaland
He repaid me in full and interest begging not to be persecuted

Free services are never free, Gmail,Facebook,Instagram, yahoo,LinkedIn etc. You're basically exchanging unrestricted access to your information for their services.

Like one mod signature says, Stop posting your details online. So many careless people here on nl

You are joking, dynamic ip can also be traced. The exact time, date and seconds the ip was rented to a specific individual is also documented. I work for one of the most advanced anti cyber crimes in the world. When an ip gets rented to an individual even if its just for a second, that individual is fully responsible within that period. The failure here is only for the bastards selling sim cards without proper identification document.

In a working society simcards with no documentation can still be traced. Apart from cell antennas, Device imei and mac can play a role when dumb criminals swap sim cards on the same device, ignorantly inserting sim cards bearing their original identity or of family and friends.

Anyway its not gonna work. I can't let Buhari turn Nigeria to an Islamic state. I have to contribute by speaking against him.

You can only run a trace if i use my real name or the email address I used in applying for the job or phone number to open a profile on NL or anywhere else.

So stop being over confident sir.

Can anyone confirm if you can still be found on nl after deactivating your account?
Have you heard of "device id" or "Mac address".
I will find you.
If you have used your legitimate account on device id "123455ef"
Then any other account be it anonymous used on device id "123455ef" is definitely and thus regarded as yours.
Your ISP has the log of IPs assigned to you. Every account be it anonymous that used the IP as at the time it was alocated to you is regarded as your account.

You keep going back to me signing in on my personal device, which is not in the scenario I painted somewhere up there. Can you see that for you to trace me, i have to eventually use whatever fake profile i must have created somewhere else on my real and personal device?

1) Name the Internet enabled phone without Camera. Are there no records of these phones?

2) Which SIM will work without prior registration?

Just don't commit serious crimes, anybody can be traced sir.

A website cannot detect device ID or mac address. A website also can't detect SIM information. Only locally installed apps can.

For you to remotely detect a person's device ID or MAC address or SIM information, the only way is to send malicious links or whatever and hope that the target is careless enough to click and unwittingly install locally on their device. Without this local install, you cannot detect jack shit other than the virtually meaningless IP address and browser-level fingerprint.

Too much scaremongering here.

Hello all ,

Looking at the recent arrest of high profile Yahoo boys Obiwanne there have been alot of conspiracy theorist about how his nairaland account played into this and I want to help.seperate facts from fiction.

Before I go further let me drop a bit of a clue into why I am doing this. I know someone who helps with digital forensic profiling or individuals, for NGOs, Embassies, law enforcement and such

For instance a recuritment firm hiring for an international NGO like Oxfam might want to vet the final list of candidates and this recruiting firm will send such a list to.him to screen out the red flags like , Religious hate, tribal hate, anti-Semitism , Homophobia etc..

Sometimes embassies who receive asylum applications from individuals claiming to be gay or whatnot send such lists to certain firms who engage my services to vet..

This individual traces digital foot prints and profile you... Even if it's one of your numerous Facebook, Nairaland, or Myspace account where you commented on how you hate bobrisky or how you wish gays are killed or how you wish , yorubas are wiped out by fulani herdsmen or how you believe ibos are pigs or how you think hausa fulani are all evil ... depending on what your applied for or the information the company is looking for
It will all show in your report ...

Sometimes companies request for certain information, like how this candidate leans in regards to violence against women.. so if you have ever made a post with one of your nairaland accounts in the romance section saying how some women deserve to be slapped or beaten well it will be found

I know you are wondering how possible this is when you may have even closed these accounts hence they read as nobody or deleted the posts on Facebook or opened over 200 accounts so you think surely it can't be traced ? grin

It can and it is very easy to do if you know how.. I won't go into details because that way you will know how to be totally anonymous hence making the person's work.harder so no.

But just know that you should keep track of people who follow you on this platform

Some of you whom I follow know why I do that.

My point is , all these TRIBALISM and Religious hate posts you make will only work against you in the ever competitive Nigerian employment market

As at last week Sage announced to their staff they are leaving Nigeria, so you have more professionals coming to join the unemployment market .

Alot of you who are in school posting tribal hate thinking for now you don't need a job just an internship well... Don't get discouraged when you don't get called up or retained afterwards

My advise start censoring yourself or live with the consequences.cheers

God forbid, it is the looting politicians that will receive God's judgment not those standing for the truth.
Minimum wage has not been implemented.
It took the president over one month to appoint his ministers ,what type of leadership pattern is that ?.
I see this your post as hate speech and it makes me believe you are a cyber terrorist trying to intimidate people from saying what is on their mind.
What are you monitoring, all those evil politicians that put an end to bills that would have made the country better in the legislative arm of government don't you see their speeches as humanity hate speeches ?.
Let the government implement the new minimum wage .
Comrade wabba has debunked the government's claims that labour is responsible for the delay in the implementation of the new minimum wage.
I see the government's speeches they made in trying to blackmail labour as humanity and economic hate speeches.
Fraudsters and all other looting nigerians should be traced.
Nigerian government can't really define religious and tribal hate speech because they are guilty of it.
Very soon they will come with religious and tribal hate body language(s)
# WHEN WILL KEMI ADEOSUN FACE TRIAL ?.
#"IF You ENTER A. P. C all Your sins would be forgiven "by(Adams Oshiomole A. P. C national chairman) = democratic, religious and humanity hate speech.

For those who are running scared on this thread above accusing me.of scare mongering , stop.fretting no one is looking for you yet smiley

Now to others who still don't.understand

1. Every vpn service can produce the information you used to.register , and they have your real location grin
There are ways we can get it from them

2. Even where you use virtual numbers to.register or burn dump numbers , your IP is very available when.runming a reverse trace and comparing your vpn truenet location

3. Like a member said above rightly without internet being enabled on the phones or the Sim being registered a simple e911 ping would reveal location within 30 yards of the base station closest . So all these stories you hear about kidnapping, I can boldly tell you that 90% of them involve either corrupt police officers or family and police officers... Hence why the VP said what he did

4. With the new mapping done with Uber in Nigeria , and now the Uber motocycles helping to further map deeper streets in every state there is not a single place to hide

5. Please please please. Save yourself a world of pain , stop posting anyhow online , you can reserve that speech within your house or in your close circle of friends

All the best

This is a good call out but i think you omitted some pertinent points.
As a forensic expert you should encourage people and reassure them of safety. Lets not heighten fear unecessarily. Yoruba will say "eni ti o je gbi, ko le ku gbi!" That is, those who do not swallow risks, cannot be consumed by risks!

On the opposite side to what you call hate, tribal bashing, religious intolerance there is also "venting".

You can say all you want to say online under your privilege for free speech but following it with action is what society discourages. As much Ibo and Yoruba heat up the social media and promise wiping each other out when have you seen Yoruba go attack Ibo settlements or Ibo attack Yoruba settlements? Never! The two are engaged in vents, and it should not go beyond social media. This is why i dont like Nairaland shutting down threads when Yoruba and Ibo go at each other. If we discourage it on social media they will find other avenues to exhale the heat....God forbid they take to street because they are chased out of internet.

On forensic investigation, I support your take completely. First, every person owe an obligation to support and grow society positively. A good society is a place of harmony for our individual family units to thrive and plant our evolution and strong value systems. Nonetheless bad elements must exist. In usage, what used to be proprietray technology and in the hands of few is no longer so, much of every aspect of technology usage today exist on open source platforms. Which means a truly bad element, those out to harm society, have as much access to apply technology in evasion tactics as forensic investigators have in detecting and tracking them. Those who go about simply building society should not be bothered with intricacies of cat and mouse game between criminals and law enforcement.

Let me give you a very simple overview of the dangers we live in. Airports and malls are convergent points for very high human traffic at any single moment. They are also hubs for commercial activities. Now you can enjoy free open wifi in most airports and malls. Well, wifi of any kind, free or private, encrypted or not, are penetrable and downloadable applications are available for free (or nearly free) that people with bad intention could use to sniff into packet streams. Imagine our vulnerability in airport or mall when we use open wifi with sniffers present in the same network and watching us swipe cards or enter username and password into bank accounts. The open wifi is a great step forward for society but good citizens should be enlightened on its wise usage.

I want to reiterate here that Marshall Ward, the Fbi agent had reached a dead point in his investigation, even with all the tools at his disposal. He was rescued by the informant software developer. Cybersecurity tools like NIDS using algorithms to flag signature footprints reported "iconoclast1960" and gave the investigation new life. But in retrospect, you can appreciate the depth of layers of covers Obi had in place using evasive and diversionary tactics to not draw attention to himself.
