Lagos State APC Spokesman, Joe Igbokwe, has been appointed as Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Drainage and Water Resources, Igbere TV reports.

Governor Sanwo-Olu had nominated Mr Igbokwe as Commissioner in the list sent to the Lagos State House of Assembly, last week.

Igbere TV reports that the Assembly had confirmed 35 out of the 38 nominees, with Igbokwe among those confirmed as Commissioner designate.

Many had expected that the Governor would announce Igbokwe as Commissioner during today's swearing in at the Alausa Government House, Ikeja, Lagos.

But shockingly, the APC Spokesman was unveiled as Special Adviser, as against the earlier announced Commissioner designate.

Joe Igbokwe had sparked controversy online over his “I am not Igbo...” comment during the screening exercise before the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The controversial APC Spokesman had come under fire, recently, over a mockery comment on popular Lagos motorbike hailing service, GoKada.

Igbokwe had mocked GoKada operators for shutting down operations in Lagos to rebrand and restrategize.

“Instead of partnering with govt on BRT, you invested “5.3 million dollars” in Okada business and expect that Lagos state will allow you jeopardise its muliti-billion naira mass transit investments.

“Call it ‘bike-hailing start up’ or whatever, okada na okada… it is not sustainable in a city of high density population Lagos”, Igbokwe had said.

The comment, however, did not go down well with many Nigerians lambasting Igbokwe and reporting him to Governor Sanwo-Olu.

Many Nigerians have reacted to the latest development, with many mocking the APC Spokesman for being “dumped” by the government despite his “overzealousness” and “eye-service”.

I believe Joe's conduct at the screening led to this. He said something like more non Yorubas should get appointments in Lagos.

Igbos are NOT entitled to any political appointment in Lagos. You all should get that clear.

It's an important ministry though. Many cities in nigeria have poor drainage causing flooding most times. I hope he's able to perform well.
People just like complaining and seeing faults in everything.
SAs and Commissioners in Lagos have similar status. They just deviced a means so as not to have too many commissioners in the state and just named some SA. The good thing is that less monitoring eyes are on SA. Commissioners just carry name for head

Drainage is one of the most important issues affecting lagos. There is going to be a lot of money allocated to clearing drainages and solving (or pretending to solve) the flooding problem. Lets not forget sanitation and clearing rubbish and the money and juicy contracts that goes with it is what brought down Ambode's govt.

to contrast this for instance being made a commisioner for education may sound rosy but there is no money in education. all the money in education goes to pay salaries, they dont handle contracts for school buildings (usually works or housing)

being made a SA or commisioner for Drainage is more important than commissioner for sports or youth development or Agric. The important portfolios are the ones where the money is. Works, housing finance.... and drainage!!

Ive never thought Joe igbokwe is mentally sound, and so therefore I've never taken him serious.

However, we must learn to be objective in our criticism.

Flood kills many and destroys properties worth billions in and outside Lagos yearly. This flood is 95% caused by blocked drainages and canals by debris.

How can being in charge of drainages in Lagos be a small job?

I honestly do not feel Igbokwe has what it takes to handle such post. It may be too tedious for a man who seem to know only how to talk.
