In most cars, the spark plugs need to be replaced after about 30,000 miles. However, you might need to check your car manual to see if your car is any different.

Changing your spark plug might appear like serious work. Well, it is not that complex. It is a simple process that would need you to set aside some time and exercise patience. Do not rush, because you need to install the replacements in a specific order.

To change the spark plug, you would need a ratchet or a socket wrench, 12-inch socket extension and new spark plugs. Estimated time for the entire process is 20 to 30 minutes.

Well, if you are not too comfortable with doing it yourself, of course, you could contract the job to a mechanic.

Here are the simple steps to change your vehicle’s spark plug.

Locate your spark plugs in your car

Know where your spark plugs are located. Often, they are attached to thick rubbery wires.

Know The Number of Plugs

You will find either four, six, or eight plugs, depending on how many cylinders your car has.

Remove the wires connected to the plugs

Remove the wire to the first spark plug only. Do not remove all of the wires at once. Your spark plugs are installed in a certain order, which you
need to maintain.

Remove the first spark plug

Use your spark plug socket and extension on your ratchet to remove the first spark plug.

Install the new spark plug

Install the new spark plug by first screwing it in by hand, and then tightening it with a wrench for a perfect fit. Do not over screw or over-tighten it.

Re-attach the spark plug wire

Repeat these steps for each spark plug, one after the other.

One of the three required items to make a combustion engine run: fuel, air and spark.

Invariably, one must be fully replaced before removing the next

To change plugs for rx300 isn't easy especially the three back ones. Unlike rav4 that i changed at will.

Remove the first spark plug

Use your spark plug socket and extension on your ratchet to remove the first spark plug.

.

In which order please? Is it from left to right or from right to left.

A left handed person will definitely want to start from left while a right handed person from the right.

Thanks

Are you kidding me?
Does one call this a DIY(Do it Yourself) on how to replace the spark plugs in a car?

I might as well write on "how to change your car bad tyre" as follows: jerk car up, remove tyre, put a good tyre, end task.

I am even surprised that some people found this post, nay, repost, helpful. How so?

A good "How to Do it Yourself" write up assumes the reader knows nothing about the task
It gives a brief but detailed step-by-step way to perform the task assisted by visuals where necessary.

The author did not mention that standard practice is to kill the engine and allow it to cool,
Then remove the battery positive terminal to avoid electric shock.

Removing the older type plug cables is different from doing so to coil packs.
What about plug inspection and plug gap?

I presume this post is not for individuals who have cars that use 6 plugs because nothing was said about the 3 plugs tucked well behind the valve cover.

Often, people copy and paste write-ups about which they know nothing and they beat their chest for a wonderful contribution.
And when they do, they copy both the good and the bad; no editing to add newer info or remove irrelevant material, etc.

My opinion, the way I think/feel it.

After driving your vehicle for 30,000 miles. They will wear out and should be changed ,If not your engine will start to misfire. I changed mine last week by myself after the mechanic billed me $675for tune up.

I had to go to autozone and spent less than $50 on buying both the spark plugs and the wrench and rachet that i used to do it myself.
