9.96 is a very solid time. He should be within the medal zone at the Olympics if he can shave 0.25 from his return time. Solid
that's 9.71secs, I bet Bolt will come out of retirement.

Bros you never can tell what will happen at the Olympics. The next Bolt can breakout in Japan just like Usain did at his first Olympics. It's safe for the young man to assume this and work hard to beat his PB.
His baseline looks very good.
The new Bolt, Christian Coleman is about to be suspended for missing 3 drug tests. From what I'm seeing this year, 9.96 can medal. I was at Birmingham Diamond league last Sunday where 10.07 was enough for Yohann Blake to win. Previous medallists like DeGrass were running 10.13 while Africas best sprinter Akani Simbine who nearly medalled at last Olympics was posting 10.15. Times are slowing since the days of Bolt/Gatlin/Gay. I won't be surprised if 9.92-9.95 wins the next Olympics if Coleman is suspended.

World class sprinting!! by any standard.

The guy is only about 20 years old.

When a youngster is improving so fast, nobody can know how much faster he can go.

Come the world championships 100m final anything could happen. A medal or even the title is not an impossibility.

Well done son, we are behind and your brilliant team mates all the way. Whatever you achieve at the world championships is going to be only icing on the cake, for you have already done us proud.

Fun fact :our 3 entrants for world championships men's 100m have an average season's best time of 9.95sec !!!

Nigeria’s Raymond Ekevwo has emerged the winner of the 100m event after clocking a time of 9.96secs at the ongoing 2019 African Games in Morocco.

This is the first time since 2007 that Nigeria will win gold in the men’s 100m at the African Games.

Christian Coleman, Noah lyles ran 9.85 this year...
Even fellow country mate divine oduduru ran 9.86 in 2019....
Akani simbine personal best in 2019 is 9.92, he ran 9.94 in Rio and placed 5th....
I agree times are becoming slower since the post bolt era.....
But u cant use one event to judge the trend of slower times....
World championship or the Olympics is a different ball game altogether....

And dont 4get grandpa Justin gatlin who has refused to retire until he's disgraced once again...
If he's going to the olympics/world championship, he will surely get a medal.....

Re: Raymond Ekevwo Is Africa’s Fastest Man by Nobody: 8:50pm On Aug 27, 2019
It doesn't work like that. You cannot make conclusion from times ran in a particular race as it depends on condition on the day. In Birmingham Diamond League times were relatively moderate because they were running into a strong wind.

But you are still right 9.96 time is fast even for a race with a following wind and there is a remote possibility of a medal especially if Coleman is suspended (This is not a fargone conclusion however because Coleman is challenging one of the 3 missed tests allegation.)

Olusoji Adetokunbo Fasuba (born 9 July 1984) is a Nigerian sprinter who specializes in the 100 metres. He is the current African record holder in the event with 9.85 seconds, thus making him the fastest African of all time.
I was about to say this, I knew that fasuba had taken over Deji Ali and one emedolu.

I was surprised to read that 9.96 is what makes Africa fastest man. all these bloggers will not kill us with fake news!

I agree times seems to be slowing but the Olympics is a different kettle of fish. Expect the top athletes to bring their A game to the table.

The sweet thing about this victory is that 2 Nigerians made it to the podium. The other guy came third in a decent 10.09. The potential to do a sub 10 secs is there. In addition to Devine Oduduru who has posted a sub 10 this season, it is expected our relay team will get something in Japan all things being equal.

Thank goodness our make athletes are getting back to the game. The females have been pulling the country over the last few years.

Re: Raymond Ekevwo Is Africa’s Fastest Man by Nobody: 9:49pm On Aug 27, 2019
It is quite in order to call him Africas fastest man because he won the All Africa Games 100m gold medal.
It is simply means that at this moment in time he is the fastest man on the day of Reckoning it doesn't matter what anybody ran in the year 1997 or even 2 weeks prior. Winning time is not even the issue.
You are entitled to be called the fastest man in your continent when you win the gold medal in your continental championship.

You are welcome. The headline on it's own could mislead because it never mentions the Championships, anybody reading the headline alone could be forgiven for assuming that the African record was broken.

This "hopeless country" made him... grin

A couple of years back he was still running around the Delta creeks, until "this hopeless country" nurtured his raw talent, took him to junior championships, and helped him get an athletic scholarship abroad.

I doubt the time. AFCOM's always throw up false results. If memory serves me right there was once a purported world record sometime in the 80's but it wasn't ratified by the IAAF due to dodgy timing equipment.

Nigerian athletes too have often posted best times at these meets to qualify only to run ridiculously disappointing slow times at world competitions coming back empty handed.

I will not hold my breath at all.
