They drew strength from the interim report of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on an investigation it launched on the bad deal in 2015, which found that the contract was neither authorised by President Umaru Yar’Adua nor approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) that have the power to seal such a deal.Who forged Yar-adua's Signature? |

Hate or like Buhari and APC, $9bn is a whole lot of money anywhere in the world. Nigeria should do everything not to pay. This government has already laden the unborn generation with hefty debt. Add this and the future is sold off |

Iranian oil tanker was seized and Iran seized British ship also and in the end the Iranian oil tanker has been released. Tit for tat. Lets see if it will work in this case. |

The deal was shrouded in fradulent secrecy from the get-go. However, except the government can conclusively prove that the signatories on the Nigerian side were unauthorized/forged, it's going to be hard to escape some form of settlement. Furthermore, the P&DI is backed by hedge-fund managers, the FG needs to identify who they are & open back channel negotiations with them. |

Buhari and APC are the cause of Nigeria s ulta poverty status. All this story means nothingness other than begging the issue. Truth is that Buhari, Osinbajo and Malami caused this. GEJ already intervened and struck a $850 million settlement. All Buhari was expected to do was pay. Rather because he trusts noone, he chose the court action. Now it has backfired. In legal parlance there is what is called plea bargaining. When you realise that you do not have a good case, you opt for plea bargaining, e.g plead guilty for lesser sentencing, rather than allow full trial that may result in heavy penalty. FG under GEJ took this option, but our "oversabi" APC leadrrs, thought otherwise. Now they are looking for who to blame. I have read some funny comments like, "sieze British and Irish assets". With our fledgling economy, you want to try nonesence agsinst the Brentwood and IMF connection? Your dream must be very BIG! Can Nigeria withstand two weeks sanctions on our oil? Even now, we are merely a surviving economy. My suggestion is that APC should swallow their pride. Go on their knees to P$ID and beg. The Bible, in Luke 12 verses 58 & 59 says "When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, make every effort along the way to settle with him, lest he drag you to the judge, the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.I tell you, you shall not depart from there till you have paid the very last mite.” The FG has alowed Nigeria to be dragged to the court and now every Nigerian is at risk. I cannot just imagine the disastrous impact this would have on our economy. If this had happened in a country like Japan, all those who contributed to this disaster would be honoured with suicide. But here we are with Malsmi, Osinbajo, Buhari and even EFCC looking for who to blame for their disastrous outing. |

Mcreloaded:Nigeria do not have capacity to do that, the bulk of the country foreign reserve is lodged in UK banks. Besides, Buhari health still depends on UK hospitals. |

The article is too long ![]() Anyway, it's obvious this government did try their best to negotiate and this is laudable. The best route for now,may be to embarrass the company and Ireland by bringing attention to the world that the contract was fraudulent from the word go and the government won't pay the outrageous award. This may compel the company to accept the much lower award. It's tone the Presidency took the gloves. |

grandstar:This is something that can affect you and the entire nation but it is too long for you to read. Probably it was too long for those who entered into the shady deal, hence they just signed without reading. If it is too long for you(Nigerian youths) to read, why should we blame our elders who probably couldn't take their time to put things in order but just signed half baked contract? |

Let us for once forget about APC and PDP government and look at the Nigerian politicians who out of greed decided to mortgage the well being of about 200million people to and outside. If Buhari is serious abt fighting corruption, all those involved in this shady deal shld as at today be looking behind bar. Haba! Some Nigerians are something else |

grandstar:I do not think the company is responsible for the fraudulence or negligence on the part of the Nigerian side at the time. Unless there is a law somewhere on the need for FEC approval that is binding on any prospective party to business with Nigeria which such a party is expected to know and in fact verify before entering into any agreement with the Nigerian government. That means foreigners must do their work and still do ours too...that's stupid. |

Free the poster biko. Whether he reads or not, he doesn't call the shots. Reading the entire document will only provide him with better informed arguments on social media at best and it goes no further than that. It will not help any negotiation or reduce the fine of $9 billion @bold: Why won't we blame them? Are they not the ones that refuse to retire and will rather keep the youths impoverished and uneducated as ready fodder for election violence just to suit their selfish desires to clinch power and keep stealing? Shebi na youth tire decide to do protest and revolution now? What did those stupid old grandfathers in power with their minions do? Don't compound the woes of the already deprived masses please! alizma: |

freeze001:The process of that revolution is another way the youths exposed their unpreparedness towards taking control of things. You want a revolution/a shot down of activities in a country, then you make a video of yourselves, stating your intention and then expect the sitting president to go and sleep and tell his security personnel to let him know when you have shot down all activities. It is only stupid man that thinks like that. If you want to eat from or take the lion's catch while its fresh, you must be fully prepared and most importantly, take the lion unaware. |

You people want to seize British assets. When Buhari was sick, he went to Britain for medical treatment. He still goes there for checkups. You don't get your bread in the same place you get your milk. If anything happens, you lose both. |
