I agree.... $9B awarded and you are begging to negotiate and settle for less?.. that you don't want assets?...don't want assets then sell them. Now I strongly believe that they know if investigated... the contract would be deemed null and void and the ruling scrapped. They are now rushing to grab what they can.

P&ID should be insisting on the implementation of the judgement they got instead of begging for negotiations. If they got the contract and the judgement fairly, they shouldn’t be scared of the investigation. This new twist goes to show that the Federal government is on the right path. We must subject the dubious contract to media scrutiny and let’s see if it can stand the rest of time.

While I encourage government to negotiate with them, the current media scrutiny and investigation must be sustained. We should negotiate from a position of strength and not one of weakness that PDP and GEJ got us into. As it stand, we should not pay anything more than $500 million.

Standard Chartered Bank, a British bank was ordered to pay $340m by the New York district attorney for a case that did not concern New York or one in which New York had no locus standi.

When MTN was ordered to pay that monstrous sum, was it fair? I repeat, justice does not have to be fair.

Clearly you don't have a good understanding about international laws, first they came to do a business here, they signed a fraudulent contract hurried for a sinister purpose while the commander in chief was in coma, the said contract never got the approval of FEC to the best of my knowledge which is grossly against the nigieria business act, for such huge contract, no minister has the right for final approval except what was agreed upon by FEC bit yet someone who was suppose to be the FG representative decided to do otherwise and now you telling me the govt should be willing to part with $1B , without due investigations. If it was that easy why didn't the former govt pay the said amount agreed upon before leaving office.
.no reasonable govt will allow that. When British petroleum halt the cleaning of phone, despite several court judgements, did the federal govt seize the assets? The British knows what they stand to lose if they go ahead with this and the FG know they got a good standing point here. Bottom. $1b? The company did not spend that much. $500m would make more sense.
