The Federal Government on Thursday alerted Nigerians to some wrong videos in circulation purportedly depicting the plights of some Nigerians who are said to be victims of xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

It cited three of such videos which it said are footage of different incidents which do not involve Nigerians .

The Minister of Information and Culture , Alhaji Lai Mohammed , said this at a press conference in Abuja.

Mohammed urged those circulating the wrong videos to desist from such since such acts were capable of causing more havoc .

He also urged opinion leaders and celebrities to watch their words .

He also urged Nigerians who he said were justifiably angry to stop carrying out reprisal attacks .

The minister also assured all Nigerians and foreigners that the government has put in place proper security measures to ensure the safety of lives and property in the country .

He assured all stakeholders that all those who looted properties under the guise of protests would be arrested and prosecuted.

There are lot of fake videos flying around to be honest, infact some of the videos are the attacks that happened in 2015.

But those old videos are what gingered lot of guys to act this time around and this will be the first time in years that Nigerians are coming out en masse against these useless South African Xenophobes.

So the old videos are part of the catalyst to the latest reaction by Nigerians which to me is a blessing rather than a curse.

Does it mean that those videos we saw earlier on were all Video-shopped?

They should just come out clean and state facts

Most of them are old, bloggers do anything for traffic irrespective of the consequences.
LIB was the first to upload mob burning Mtn Lagos office while other blogger circulated it.
Only for it to be dug out on Nairaland as Mtn Ilorin burning in 2015.
Would there be more appraisals after that or not?

The fact still remains that we have brothers and sisters who are in South Africa... Who confirmed the death of so many Nigerians there.

I ain't disputing the fact that some blogs do carry fake news but for Lai Mohammed or presidency to say that no Nigerian was killed... That's a big lie
